via amigans.net (http://www.amigans.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2377)....
The MUI for AmigaOS development team is proud to announce the immediate release of version 4.0-2016R1 of the Magic User Interface for AmigaOS4/PPC and AmigaOS3/m68k.
Please find the release archives in our download section, at: http://download.muidev.de (http://download.muidev.de)
Like all former releases a keyfile is required to enable all available settings. Old keyfiles from MUI 3.8 can be used without any restriction.
Please note that MUI4 for AmigaOS3/m68k is definitely targeted at powerful systems with a fast CPU and a fast graphic board. Although it is still possible to run this release on a real 68k machine an emulation like WinUAE is very highly recommended. Also colormapped screens with 256 colors at most are still supported, but MUI4 makes heavy use of fancy truecolor images and effects which cannot be provided on colormapped screens with the full range of possibilities.

What good is this, when it's no longer possible to register the software or obtain a keyfile legally?
Side note: any classic/68k users should be warned away from these new versions, reference all the threads full of folks who've had problems with them in the past.
Cheers for the further development, anyway! :)

I believe MUI can still be registered, except Stefan will send a generic key file instead of one in your own name. See sasg.com.

I sent payment sometime last year. No response. Last I heard Stefan had completely abandoned computers and was off mountain biking the Alps, or some crazy thing like that. ;)
Either way I still felt good about paying, since when I was a broke teenager I pirated the he** out of that software, but it still would have been nice to receive any kind of response at all. Even just a "Hey, thanks for the $$!" :(

thanks for another update:pint:

It's not a generic key file, it's the key file of somebody else. Always the same, the only one he has left as it seems.

If it was only the Alps. Last time it was the Andes, acrosss the whole of South America: http://www.alpenzorro.de/andix

Don't do it. Did you not read my comment just a few above yours? :p

I asked him years ago about using my original key file on multiple computers if I pay him for the extra computers. He said that would be no problem at all.

The OS3 version doesn't look as before with AmiModRadio, there is something wrong with that dashed line around the images:

Of course it isn't only with AmiModRadio:

Edit: No, it isn't a bug, as I've been told "Bitmap frames can be used on truecolor screens only. On colormapped screens you get that SHINE/BACKGROUND dashed frame instead to give you a hint that the intended frame cannot be displayed."
But the thing is that in fact those bitmap frames (the borders of the buttons and image) were displayed in colormapped screens.
Now a program like AmiModRadio that includes in the program (not using the MUI prefs) a frame around the Radio image and also around the buttons can't show it like before. The option is to make it invisible with the MUI prefs so you don't have that frame but also you get rid of that ugly dashed lines.

Or to add a frame with the MUI prefs.

EDIT: I'm very sorry, it seems that the problem isn't this MUI version, it was just the preferences I was trying it seems.

So you recommend not to register MUI.
Is it because you received no reply after sending the money?
Did you at least get the keyfile, or didn't you even get this, as in "no reply"?
The MUI homepage says:
"Since people keep asking... YES! You can still register MUI... please go ahead :-) "
But this was from Jan 2007 - can one still get a keyfile in 2016?

I got no reply at all. No keyfile, nothing.

I was hopping to get key for MUI. That way I will use MUI 3.8 demo. I can live with this.
