Title: A3000 project - Using a external 2nd SCSI2SD device as storage HDD
Post by: WeiXing3D on March 26, 2016, 12:15:51 AM
Once again, thank you to all who helped me in getting my X-Surf 100 & Rapid Road USB module to work. They are both working as a charm.

New project: I want to use a second SCSI2SD microSD which I bought just in case I screw the first one up  and I'l like to use that as a storage HDD. It is already sitting inside my external SCSI side car, with my CD-ROM.

I already tried inserting a formatted 32GB formatted with SFS in 2 partitions, readable but not bootable either of them. This didn't work, because of some unknown reason to me, the system is trying to boot from that external micro SD unit, so I got the pink screen asking for a Workbench disk. I didn't not boot from my internal SCSI2SD device.

This is my current device configuration:
(http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/AmigOS923/20160325_171125_zpseouypttf.jpg) (http://s358.photobucket.com/user/AmigOS923/media/20160325_171125_zpseouypttf.jpg.html)

So what do I need to do to to prepare a card and be used as a external storage HDD, and that my system continues booting from my internal SCSI2SD?

BTW, I find that formatting the micro SD suing Morphos3.9 and SFS is quite fast and convenient. I can post the guide here if anyone is interested.

Thank you in advance for any help

Do all of the devices show up in the early startup menu?

Change the boot priority of the external device to be after the internal drive, or just uncheck the bootable box in HDToolbox.  That'll stop it from trying to boot off of it!  ;)

Un-checking "bootable" not only stopped the computer from booting from the external SCSI2SD device, it stopped the computer from booting period.

I had to disconnect the external SCSI2SD device from the scsi cable to get the computer to boot again.....

You need to connect that SCSI2SD up to a PC like I mentioned and change the SCSI ID to something other than 0 like the main one is set at. In HDtoolbox change your boot drive to a priority higher than the other drives. You can do this and save with no data loss.

DHO: (or whatever you named it) boot priority 40
DH1: priority 45
DH2: Work Drive priority 50
Floppy should be higher so it boots first if a floppy is inserted.

Also don't forget you can also hold both mouse buttons at bootup to get into the early startup and select a drive to boot for testing as well.

This gives you room to add new drives to the chain and use something like like 51, 52, 53 etc... The lower the number the higher its priority. So in this example DH0 will boot first, then DH1, then DH2.
You can also use negative numbers. like -1 and -10 to spread out the lists even more.

Normal for DF0 = 5, DF1 = -10, DF2 = -20, DF3 = -30, HDD = 0.

If you want to prevent it to boot from floppy, set your HDD to 6 or higher. If you want to boot from every floppy drive, even if a HDD is connected, then set the HDD to -31 or lower.

If the drives boot backwards I may have my order wrong. If that's the case its higher numbers before lower, but I don't think that is right. I believe the way I wrote it is correct. I am at my grand parents currently, but will look at my hard drives setup when home after 8 tonight and reply back as well. You can play with it and just write down the order you have to return. I like using larger numbers, some like the stock like I put in. I have LOTS of drives though and cant remember what I did off the top of my head.

Okay, so my current setup is like this when I look in HDToolBox

My main boot drive is DH0: and its priority in the partition is -4

Backup is DH1: and it is priority 74

The remaining partitions are not set to boot and are Work1: and Work2:

So the -4 on DH0: boots first at all times.
