Title: more off topic than a monkey on speed: housing
Post by: lorddef on February 26, 2004, 08:54:09 PM
Right people I'm looking for some advice on where to start with looking for my own place.  Having recently graduated from uni I'm finding myself alarmingly stressed living with my parents, I just don't think I can take it anymore...

So I'm not on a fantastic wage, but I'm wondering where to start. Looking at rent prices in Nottingham I keep thinking I'd probably be just as well off going for a mortgage, but then I really don't think I should be thinking of buying a house right now with the housing prices, being only 21 and not having fantastic job security.

Any advice on this in general would be handy, peoples past experiences are ofcourse very welcome.

The other thing I'm thinking is that despite having a few groups of friends I'm perhaps going to get very lonely at times if I'm living alone...

Arh, my head hurts  :-(

Well, first have a job of course and a payable room or so.
For the rest, nothing to be worried about actually.

My advice...

Stay with your parents for 10 years.
Save every penny you can get your hands on.
Use that money to buy properties.
Become a landlord.

When you are 31, move into your best property.
Go out and find a 20yr old with bigguns.

Fill'er up with babies (then get a mistress and stick her in one of your other properties).

I'M SERIOUS!!!!

LOL!
My dad threw me out when I was seventeen, so I never got the chance to do that. :-D

@def
Try to get yourself a place a bit away from the town; those apartments are usually cheaper.

@whabang
yeah, thats what I've been doing but they are all a little isolated.

It's all a little daunting, studant diggs is one thing but the real world feels like a totally different beast...

Isolation is the price for cheap housing. Also, food is generally more expensive outside of town.

I think I'm going to have to go and have a look at what I can get for what prices, and then see how much I'm looking at for everything.
