Post by: lordnicon on February 26, 2004, 05:45:28 PM
Upgrading my Amiga

Is a Amiga A2000
With a rev 6 mobo

It’s got a Commodore A2620 accelerator card it only have 4 sets of 4 ram don't know how much that means.

It’s got a Commodore A2091 SCSI card and hard drive.

And a Commodore A2058 ram card I think its empty but don't know

A microway AGA-2000E flicker fixer video card.

1 floppy

I want to wipe the hard drive and every thing and start again how do i do this and what do I need (I have no dices or anything?

I want a CD or DVD drive what should i get?

Do I need anything else if so tell me (just think I’m thick and I’ll be happy lol)
If you need any more info I’ll try and get it for you just ask.

You will need a SCSI CD-R or CD-RW.
Also look at getting a new accelerator 040 or higher. This will usually give you a better faster scsi controller and a lot more extended 32 bit ram (32-128 mg).
Also look at getting 3.1 kickstart rom so you can install OS3.9.
I would also look at getting a Graphics card Spectrum/Picasso4/Retina 3 (not the 2 it is not rtg) even Picalo would be nice.

As a quick explanation the A2000 has a ram limit of 8mg which is very small this would be a combination of the 2091 and the 2058. The 2091 was a good controller but was put out before all the SCSI standards where set and is slow and may cause problems with some hardware. By adding a 040 or higher accelerator (accelorator slot type not CPU type)to your sytem you get a more modern SCSI controller more System Ram (faster and easier to find ram sticks) plus you will have a very fast machine (Amiga wise that is.

The graphics card will give 24 bit color.

Unfortunately you need ROMs for A500/A2000. A1200 has the ROM on two chips, A500/A2000 has it on one, so they are not compatible.

The A2091 does ZII DMA so maybe putting some RAM directly on the card, rather then the ZII RAM on the A2058 an on the A2620, might speed up diskaccess a little bit.
Maybe you will have to reduce the amount of RAM on the A2058 after installing RAM on the A2091, as the total max of ZII RAM is as mentioned 8 MB.
But I wouldn`t invest in such an old pice of hardware. You should really get a faster accelerator tha usually has a way better SCSI-controller. A Blizzard2040 would be a good start and not too expensive. If it is cheap and there is already a decent amount of RAM on the card (it`s practically imposible to get the unique GVP RAMs today, unless you are wiling to pay a fortune) a GVP030 would do also. Stay away from the Apollo2030 as it is totally crappy.

Do you mean 27£ for the card or shipping cost alone ?
Personally I would only pay about 50 EUR for this card. The major drawback (of this in all other ways fine lowend card) is that it needs custom GVP-RAM modules for RAM-upgrade. Those GVP-RAMs are hard to get and if you get one, you have to pay for it in gold.

Anyway 27£ shipping cost is a hell of a lot of money and is in no way in balance with the worth of the card.

Hi

I will trade a Blizard 2040/2060 for a 4000 mobbo and daughter, wih the latest version of the entire chipset, including rom 3.1 16 fast and 3640.

You have to specify which one is it exactly? 2040 or 2060? If it's 2040, then the trade is not really good for the A4000 owner, and if it's 2060, I'd say it's about right.

May beI have mistaked the sentence.

I offer a 4000 mobbo and daughter board, with the latest revision of all custom chips, ROm 3.1, 3640 card and 16 Mb of fast RAM, tarding for a 2040/2060 board.

Its a replacement board came from the official C= service, so it didnt be used at all.Only tested.

Hope its better now
