Title: More Trumpcard 500 Weirdness
Post by: curtis on February 06, 2016, 11:34:32 PM
Okay, here's a head scratcher for y'all.

Still working with an IVS Trumpcard 500, Rev 6a motherboard, KS 2.05/3.1, and a kipper2 8MB RAM expansion.

With the kipper2 RAM expansion in place with either/or KS 2.05 or 3.1, IF I have the Trumpcard plugged in, the RAM expansion is NOT recognized.

Same setup, but no Trumpcard, RAM is found.

WTF!!!!

Anybody else have this same configuration?

Any comments regarding what the heck is going on there?

I mean, the kipper2 RAM expansion is under the cpu and the Trumpcard is on the expansion bus.

BTW, I also tried the same thing with a 4MB expansion, also kipper2, with the same results.

This just borders on weird!

With 8 MB ram expansion on the kipper board. aren't you messing with the maximum available addresses in the zorro II space?

Huh?

I'm not using both at the same time.  That would be kinda dumb.

I did notice the Trumpcard uses polled I/O rather than DMA.  Would that affect its memory access?

Or should I called Donald Trump and ask him?

What memory board are you using? This (http://www.kipper2k.com/a500fastmem.html)?

Autoconfig devices in the CPU socket need to disable access to the $E80000 autoconfig space on the motherboard until after they are configured. I'm not sure the Kipper2k board does this. If it doesn't, the memory and any expansion boards will interfere with each other and one or both of them won't work.

No, I'm using the first generation with just the memory and NO IDE.

Hmm, that may be what is going on.

Guess we need kipper2 to chime in and let us know if his boards do that.
