Happy new year :)
Question up front: Is there a modern 3.X branch of a simple browser like AWeb, Dillo, or Links even that supports a new version of SSL/TLS like SimpleMail 0.42 does?
I saw that recently SimpleMail 0.42 came out (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=70220) with a new version that uses a modern implementation of OpenSSL. This is rather important for getting online today as increasingly sites don't support the old, insecure versions of SSL/TLS. Updated CA lists would be a bonus, although not a requirement.
Older browsers like IBrowse/Voyager don't support the latest and greatest TLS, and I don't expect that to change. NetSurf would probably be 'the way forward' for modern browsing, but really I only go online with my 1200 to download a few files, it only has a 68030 so I don't even enable JavaScript. Currently I don't consider the 3.X branch of NetSurf to be terribly stable just yet either although if it can run on OS3.1/68030 without much trouble, feel free to point me to a .LHA of the version that can.
If not, do any old open source Amiga browsers support *any* version of OpenSSL? If so, maybe the SimpleMail team's port could be used as the basis for a recompile.

Try http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cdyoung/tmp/netsurf_os3.lha
It'll be slow though and you'll need at least 32MB. Very alpha, should be pretty stable but has other problems.

Except that it does not appear the OS3.9 build of SimpleMail uses OpenSSL, only AmiSSL.

Ah, I see you're right. The OS3 version of SimpleMail is still on AmiSSL (outdated OpenSSL port). That's a shame, increasingly difficult to get online with that.
I'll take a look at NetSurf, though now I'm suspicious if it uses AmiSSL too? Thanks!
Edit: I've got an ACA1231 so enough RAM to start NetSurf and load a simple page I'm guessing.

It uses OpenSSL.
