Hi all,
Sorry but I just had to chime in about this, I just HATE the term "Miggy". I have been
using Amiga computers since 1988 and I have never for one second thought of my
"Amiga" computer as a "Miggy". Miggy is the nickname of a baseball player on the
Detroit Tigers, not a fabulous amazing computer. I just cringe every time I read that
term in a post when referring to my beloved Amiga. Right now I have two A1200's
and a CD32 Amiga computers and none of them are "Miggy's". Please spare me.
Happy New Year!

Agreed. :)
-
And this from a guy known as "punkyclown"? lol
-
Yea, it's absolutely crappy nickname! Even so Jay Miner's dog Mitchy would sound close to it... Anyway let's keep freedom of speech to everyone.
-
Disparaging my Nck name doesn't make the term "Miggy" any better.
Cheers
-
I hope I'm laughing with you because I'm not laughing at you. I don't and never have used the term "Miggy". I probably don't care for it but it doesn't really bother me. And I didn't mean for my comment to disparage your nickname but it just struck me as funny. Have a Happy New Year my friend!
-
I wonder when the term 'Miggy' was first used? Some people hate 'Amigan' too. I'm not a personal fan of any of those terms, but I'm not about to let it ruin my new year!

@ punkyclown
I'm sure you've heard the saying' opinions are like arseholes...';)
To each his/her own.
-
@punkyclown
Me too.

I have a SAMiga and I'm not crazy about that name but I'm grateful for it and that we still have an Amiga Community.
-
Yeah not a big fan of it either, but some will say Miggy, others will say other nicknames I like Amiga and I refer to my computers as "her" a lot :).
-
Hey, The baseball player who has that Nick name is named Miguel, Miggy makes sense for
him. Amiga should be "Amy" but no...
-
i Agree, call it what it is. It was hard enough to get AMIGA known in the world without silly nicknames like miggy.
-
Yeah, instead of complaining about a name go play with yer miggies :laugh1:

Hey and I have to agree, it sounds like some thing one would call a Rodent and not the beautiful Amiga.
-
It could be worse (i.e. 'Speccy' :D)
But seriously, nicknames come about either as a convenience (like abbreviations/contractions) or as an endearment - I think it's nice that the Amiga is so fondly remembered/regarded by some that they call it 'Miggy' - C64's are referred to as 'bread-bins' and what do people call Atari ST's???
The fact that in 2015, soon to be 2016 we have various modern-ish OS choices and new hardware and software being developed is a testimony to how influential the 'Miggy's been in the lives and imaginations of users throughout the decades ;)
-
never called anything miggy or speccy myself. so lame.
-
Just a name, I don't use it but people who use "miggy" tend to use it as a term of respect and love, for that reason alone I give it a pass.

Another good one, its BreadBox, after all the C64 was invented in America .. lol

I am Amiga user since 1985, and the first time I saw the "miggy" term used for Amiga computers was on users forums, and the first thing I think was "WTF?". Really? "Miggy", come on!.
I not agree about that nickname, but anyway, I suppose some people think they're using a"loving" way to call the Amiga computers.
I just call "The Amiga" or "the 500, 1200...". If I am writing something about any specific model, sometimes y write "A1200, A500, A2000...".
-
I use it all the time. Not gonna stop, so Happy New Year! hehe
Seriously, nicknames for Elizabeth could be Eli, Liz or Beth. Miggy is like Lizzy. I use it affectionaly for an old friend. my Amiga(s).

I also reserve the right to call mine as I want to. Luckily she always obeys my commands although outcome is not always as wanted. She also thinks people should learn not to hate; it makes live so much more bearable - especially an Amigan live.
I hope there are no people who hate talk about computers in a feminine way ?
