guys i find this unit local , i wish to buy amiga 1200 , i find local amiga 1200 escom commdore, as collector i'm not sure will i buy it price is like 140 euro, what is more rare and valuable unite this one or normal look amiga 1200, thanks
-
If you're not looking to use it you shouldn't buy it.
-
I wouldn't worry so much about whether it's C= or Escom, condition should be #1 priority. The Escom units have slightly whiter plastics and there's a potential nag with the floppy drive (easily resolved), while the C= era units are more likely to have leaking capacitors (also no biggie).
Of course, a mint C= era model *might* ultimately have more collector value, though I haven't seen any real difference in prices between the two here in the States (where they're both somewhat rare).
*edit* BTW, if the computer is is nice shape, 140 euro would be a steal over here.

If you are just a collector and you are not going to use it don't buy it.
I really dislike these collectors who buy this stuff just to joy of owning.

what unit collectors wish more ESCOM or Commodore, i check prices and Escom looks more expensive but i have feeling that collectors wish Commodore version more, am I right?

i will pass it, next in line will buy and maybe will be collector, so you never know who will buy unit after me as seller sell unit on local online page, so this teory is for me "stupid" , i will buy what i wish to buy and what i like, and yes i'm collector but i play from time to time not only collect.
-
Well, the thing is that collectors are making it so much harder and more expensive for those of us who are actually users.

Oh 'cmoon! Should do reality check on this one... Don't you think if C= sold over million Amigas, so all of em must be used today in 2015?! If I own a fine 1959 Cadillac, should I drive it everyday? There's plenty of Amigas to collect for us who really love the machine and history behind it. Preserving these units isn't a crime but throwing away sure is!
Well, this was just my two cents on the subject.
-
I think C= / Escom sold over 6 million Amigas, total. Of those I'd bet better than 95% are thrown away by now and/or broken beyond repair, battery damage, etc. Here in the states it can be months for even a single A1200 to show up on ebay, and when they do they sometimes go for even more than they were sold when new.
Almost every day I see posts from people desperate for parts to keep their Amiga's running, then you'll have someone pop up who has like 35 of the same model... well geeze, couldn't these two get together? The person with dozens of them and the person desperate for parts? You know the old saying, "you can't take it with you". At least, that's what I think.
Also, don't be these guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYyuo7gm-aQ

One day these so called collectors will conquer this site. They willl start to crying if someone make a hole on his/her amiga's case to install some hardware.
Most of facebook's amiga group members are that kind of "amiga users".
I got kicked out from that group when I asked about CDTV, WHDload, xBench and iGame, because of spamming. I should have mentioned Commodore and/or Amiga. With some help I could join again when misunderstanding was cleared, but I choosed not to join again. If some one doesn't know what these has to do with Amiga, it shouldn't be my problem.

Oh yes ofcourse but one shouldn't criticize people when mention word "collection" because as it seems, majority of this forum own more than one machine and I really doubt the fact that all are really used.
And oh yeh, I hate to do little holes in my Amigas! But hey let's do it in our own way and keep it fun, yes? BTW I love iGame/WHDLoad for how it beautifully makes all stuff run.

Well, you can own a classic car and drive it now and again, I think they were referring to the so called collectors who buy stuff up, shove it in a closet and never touch it until the prices go up-profiteering. i have many machines myself and 50% were dead ones i revived and or rebuilt, the rest i either bought or were given to save them from the dump. Everyone should have 2 of each amiga flavor ;) -waits for flames- lol
I do use them but not every day(well my 4k/mediator/csppc runs 24/7 and is used daily),and they are in many different configs which makes them fun. When i ran my small store i used many as a hardware test bed.
I too hate seeing Amiga cases hacked up, it doesn't bother me to do it on old yellowed ones that are not pristine, that being said if you are going to make holes, do it right, not like a chainsaw ate it.
Part of the fun is making Mods to them.
I found a nice way to add a aluminum angle piece under my c128DCR that has all the switches and buttons i need, it uses 2 case screws underside to hold it,and the cable goes thru a gap between top and bottom case,no mods at all to the 128 this way and if i ever want to remove them, just unbolt it.

I really hope the capacitors burst and you lose money on this venture. Are you even going to test whether it works before you try and sell it with 50% margin to the next poor sap? Some people still enjoy actually USING these machines! How about you buy it and teach a 5 year old about using Deluxe Paint or some retro games?
-
Id rather give an Amiga away for free to someone who is going to look after it and use it. Rather than have a profiteer buy it off me. I sold my spare A1200 to an Amiga user for what it originally cost me 10 years ago. Plus post. Not market rates, for that very reason.

What's wrong with collecting? With your logic you could say the same about old books, comics, vinyl records, stamps, coins, antique guns, cameras, vintage radios, collectible army uniforms, WWII items and so forth.
If a collector does not actively use his antique rifle, or his old British army uniform, or does not use the vintage Kodak camera from the 60's, he should stop collecting? Should he give away his Kodak camera?
Or should a collector not be allowed to have a book about coffee tables displayed on a shelf in the living room, because it is not actively used?
A lot of of vintage computer hardware and software would not have survived hadn't it been for collectors. Same goes for other fields, such as comics, books etc.
-
I have a number of uncommon items I'll probably hardly ever/never use.
A Commodore SX64, that I paid $45 for, and an Amstrad Mega PC, that owes me about $100.
I didn't buy them to collect them though, I bought them because they were cheap, different, and interesting.... and the more they're used, the more likely the CRTs are to fail...

Yes exactly my point, thank you very much!

Nailed it. I'd prefer to see the rare stuff in the hands of a collector with deep pockets, rather than a cheapass. Pretty obvious which one will have the means to preserve it better.

Museum pieces might be preserved but NO ONE will ever see them again! Deep pocket peeps are, IMHO, are only self serving. But, If I ever get invited to a Miggy collector's rarity photo shoot / wine tasting / babe-o-rama / all nighter, consider me there!

My decades of experience with Amigas is all about use and love of use. Don't try to justify "collection for collections sake" with me buddy. My "logic" as you've tried to corrupt it has nothing to do with anything but Amiga. Understand?
I suppose I should add I assumed you were responding to me based on the post timing. If not feel free to let me know.
