Hi Hope everyone on this side of the Pond had a nice Thanksgiving.
I can not get NewIcons to load on my system. I have installed everything I believe correctly. Changed the Startup-sequence and the User startup-sequence correctly.
In the NewIcon folder all the icons display, when I try to attach them to a specific program they display as a tiny black dot with a grey border. Can someone tell me what I
am not doing right.
Much appreciated.

Drop NewIcons like a hot potato and switch to Peter K.'s icon library. This will allow you to display all NewIcons, GlowIcons, .png, and whatever else, limited only by the number of colors of your Workbench screen.

It's a drop-in replacement library in 3.9. With 3.1 you'll need to use something like LoadModule or LoadResident.

What do you mean "???" - ? With 3.9 or 3.5 you just stick it in Libs: and it works automatically. With 3.1 you have to use LoadModule or LoadResident. Which I guess would be more obvious if the Aminet link wasn't down right now, LOL. :(
IMHO this is something that's so fundamental to Amiga use everyone should be running it. Just my .02 cents.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info, running the Lib and everything is Hunky Dory.

I have never seen that happen on stock 3.5/3.9 with ROM updates and stock 3.1 kickstart. The ROM update comes with its own icon.library. Are you saying that SetPatch will load LIBS:icon.library if it exists?

He is right, it will load the new icon.library if its in libs under os3.5/3.9.

Yes indeed, you guys are correct! Guess I never noticed since I tend to rekick with 3.9 kickstart stripped for icon.library. From viewing inside SetPatch, I see the same is also the case for Workbench.library. I apologize for my kneejerk reaction, I learnt something new today, and that is nice :)

You're post makes me wonder? Do you know what all setpatch does? I know it loads the romupdate file, the icon and workbench librarys and scsi.device. What else am I missing?

This varies pretty widely depending on version and system config. If you're curious, just execute it at the command line and see what list of patches it has installed. Here's a couple old screenshots I had laying around:

Or with latest setpatchs setpatch pi = setpatch patchinfo - don't remember where it is first included -3.5 or 3.9?

To be honest, I just opened SetPatch in a an editor (CygnusEd) and searched for LIBS: :roflmao:
