Title: 500,4000,4000T 15 years of software
Post by: Skubacb on November 05, 2015, 04:45:04 PM
My father passed and I have the following:
Amiga 500, 4000,
4000T with Catweasel and Emplant
Cybervision
Cyberstorm 060-50
Cyberstorm I think is a 060-50 but it has a heatsink on the chip
Mediator with Spider USB, ethernet, 3DFx video, sound card, 8up.
Picasso IV w Concierto Sound Module
Picasso IV
DPS TBC IV, DPS TBC I
Two Insert MkII
SCSI case with 4 drives
Fastlane Z3
GVP IOExtender
Sunrize AD516
Hydra Ethernet
EFlash 4000
Hypercom 3
SoftHut Toastscan
MBX 1200Z - Original Box
Amiga
8UP Full of memory chips
DKB XL Floppy Drive - Original Box
Phase V Fastland - Original Box
Commodore 1084S
Insite Peripherals Floppy Drive
Mouse Master Joy/Mouse two position switcher
Aegis Sound Magic Digital Audio Sampler
Mac to Dos - Floppy converter?
Video Interface Pro - Super VHS Output DigiPex Corp
Three button, Jin, Alpha Data, etc. mice

Have original manuals for much of the hardware above.

OS 3.1, 3.9, OS XL, with manuals boxes

Hundred or so of Amiga Format etc. magazines with associated floppies. Hundred or so productivity programs, games, etc.

Have many of the original boxes and documentation for the games, productivity and utilities. Art Department Pro, Bars & Pipes Pro, etc.

I am leaving these as he left them since I am only now learning about the Amiga.  Except for the 4000 where I am replacing the battery (Learned about that here).  It had a slight amount of corrosion on the battery but not on the board.  So I ordered a replacment from Amiga Kit.  The 4000T is original Amiga and never had a battery on the board.  It was plugged in.  So I replaced the battery in the battery holder. Nothing has been tested.  He passed 5 years ago and I am just now getting to this.

I live in Tucson, AZ.  I am not looking to make a killing on this.  My Dad loved the Amiga and would want it to go to someone that is going to use it not just put it on EBay at a higher price. Took pictures of most of the hardware have not started on the software.  I.E. putting in back in the original boxes.
I am willing to drive two hours to meet someone at a reasonable price.  I am willing to split into two groups.

Reading through this list of hardware and software is nostalgic experience for me like looking through a classic car that someone restored from the ground up.  I can see all his purchases and in my mind I can follow the logic he used as he upgraded and expanded.  Very personal, and it makes me think about my own Amiga collection and the path that lead to it.
I can tell you are trying to honor your Dad's love of the Amiga and put it in the hands of someone who will love it like he did.  The thought of someone buying this up and turn around and profit off it on ebay makes me cringe but it is a realistic fear.  I truly hope you find the right people to re-home this collection to.
I'm sorry your Dad passed.  I think it's great that you are being so respectful to what he loved.  The Amiga seems to be the only computer that had that magic.
If the spark of interest is there perhaps you keep one of these systems for yourself.
In any case.  Welcome to the forum, and thank you for your consideration with what looks to be an amazing historical Amiga collection!

I'm really sorry for your loss. That's terrible news and it breaks the heart to hear it. I applaud your efforts to find a suitable home for these things. In fact, if I weren't in Iraq right now I'd gladly drive down from San Francisco to liberate you of this stuff. There is a classic computing museum in the Bay Area as well as the group and meetings that take place in Sacramento. That's where I'd disperse these items if it were up to me.

Good luck and keep your head up. Once again, sorry for your loss.

@Skubacb

I'm sorry for your loss.

I could make some offer but I would prefer you kept your father's treasures :-) Maybe you could join us (you have already registered and you know more or less what hardware you have, that's a good step) and enjoy using amigas instead of selling them ;-)

If you want to sell the two A4000 maybe you would like to keep the A500, you won't earn much selling it and could be a nice machine to keep and remember your father's hobby. If you don't want to use floppy disks something like a GoTek Floppy emulator could allow you to run old games and programs. If you remove the battery from the memory expansion it could last many years. Keep the external floppy disk drive in case you plan to keep the A500.

I am sorry for your loss, it's always hard parting away such a collection from someone who loved it. Sadly I do not live in the states else I would have offered you a fair price without doubt.

I hope it will go to someone who will use it, but if I where you I would have kept most of it, the A4000T has quite a high value so it's not pennies. Keep some for yourself and be a part of the Amiga.org community :)

Thanks to you all.  Like I said I would like it to go to someone that would use it.  I know there is some money here but really want it to go to someone that respects the Amiga as he did.

Will try to post a shot of all the software and original boxes.

Revised. I posted the shots to make sure of what I had.  The Big Book of Amiga says that the card with the heatsinks is actually a Cyberstorm PPC 060/50.  But it should have a fan on the upper heatsink and connected to the power on the upper left. The non-heat sink is a Cyberstorm MkIII 060-50.  Learning as I go.
Also, by the sound of it I guess I will have to auction and ship world wide.  There is just a ton of stuff.

I am sorry for your loss, and good luck, it is quite a collection! The Cyberstorm with heat sink is indeed CSPPC, it is the PowerPC 604e that is under the heat sink and it also has a lot of extra electronics to support the PowerPC compared to the "regular" Cyberstorm.

Sorry for your loss. I've actually thought about including my Amiga collection in my will to spare relatives from working out what all my junk is worth and what to do with it.

Sadly if you don't put the right pricetag on the tings it'll likely end up on the market again and fill someone elses pockets so although I understand it might not be something you want to think to much about right now I strongly suggest you check out the value of the items and sell at no less than 80% of what is the going rate (even if sold bundled together) or it'll likely just go to fill someone elses pockets instead of helping anyone... or perhaps sell the most valuable things at full price and donate rest to a local Amiga user or club.

@Skubacb - I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope you're able to find a good home for these items which your father obviously loved very much.

Out of curiosity, was your father a member on this site?  I've always wondered about that, when a member just stops posting... if something has happened to them, you know?  It may be that he has many friends here, or elsewhere in the community who are wondering about him.  I've even asked my girlfriend that if something ever happened to me, to come on here and say something...

In any case, welcome to Amiga.org, just wish it was under better circumstances.

As everyone has been saying its a difficult thing to get rid of something that belonged to someone who you loved and respected. I'm sure many of us are thinking the same thing  "oh I wish I was closer and could get that A4000t" I've always dreamed of owning one but the price they go for make it literally impossible. I know someone will treat these systems with the love and respect they deserve.

And again welcome to Amiga.org

Did not know it was a PPC chip under the heatsink.  New picture required.

He hadn't been active with the Amiga for some time.  I believe that the Cyber boards and the rest were out because he was getting ready to down size.

I wouldn't mind working with the Amiga.  Figure it was the best ever made.  But I am trying to downsize now too.  Kind of worried about even turning anything on since he had pulled so much and I don't have enough knowledge about the Amiga.

In the end I figure I will just have to go piece by piece.  I will put the enormous amount of software with the 4000 and the 4000T.  Also, some really expensive Ultra SCSI cables, terminators,  you know all that other stuff that comes with staying with a single computer for at least 15 years.

BTW where do you guys mostly sell your stuff?

Wish I lived close by. The Amiga 4000 has always been my dream machine. Even after being a member here all these years I still haven't found a 4000 at a decent price. Heck I still don't own an actual Amiga. Have to get my fix from WinUAE.

Hmm, I remember a fellow from Tucson, I lived there for a few years. Am willing to make the drive but I have no where the money that is deserved for such a collection.

AmiBay.com is the goto place to buy and sell Amiga hardware. Since you have to put a pricetag on the items you sell there (and bide by first come first served) I suggest searching similar items to get a picture of what things go for.

Else there's always Ebay but prices there fluctuate more.

You all have been great.  Thanks for all the info.
Have decided I must break all this up.  Too much for one person unless you are a complete nut.  Amibay it is and thank you all again.

He stated his father died 5 years ago (sorry for his loss)

...and then he went fishing...

"Don't you think"... "a little too ironic"

Shame you chose Amibay, I would have been interested otherwise, even if it involved the dreaded eBay.

My sympathies on the loss of your father, I hope the items find a good home.

Amibay has some pretty strict and bizarre rules, and unfortunately most of it's members are overseas, but please let's not turn this guy's thread into a slugfest, eh? ;)

So sorry to hear about your loss, I am only an hour from you in Gilbert. I would love to come by and help you out any way i can. It would go to a great home that wouldnt end up on ebay. I sent you a PM with my info if you would like some help.

Please dont put it on Amibay before you give me a chance to come over and help you sort it out. I promise it will go on ebay from someone taking advantage of you if you are not careful. We have some not so great people that look for this sort of tragedy and turn it into a profit for themselves!

Again, my info is in a PM to you. I could come by this weekend if you like.

I have been ill for about 6 months and am recovering.  So it will be at  least a month before I am able to start checking everything and be able  to box stuff for shipping. I have made no absolute decisions except that I want it to go to a real Amiga person.

I know everything was running when it was put  away but that was some time ago.

I will update here when I am ready to do all of that.

I am interested in what you have, and you know I am a real Amiga person.  :)

I am in Lake Havasu.   Thanks!  Jim

Finally replied to everyone.  Am cleaning out all kinds of things not just the Amiga.  I finally have all the Amiga stuff layed out together and pulled the 4000T out and ran it. Now has OS3.9 on a HD. Will get back to the Amiga stuff later after more of all the other things I meant to cleanup are dealt with.

I only check msgs and emails every few days so please forgive my late replies.

I'm only interested in an A500.  So if I am too late for it, anyone else has one, USA only, I want it.

The entire collection is SOLD.

Was working on it. The 4000T checked, then I checked the Cyberstorm 060/50 and the CyberstormPPC 604. They all worked.  Got online with the X-Surf.  Did not need to go further.  Really enjoyed how nice the Amiga OS is.  Thanks to all those who helped me on figuring out what I had and how much it was worth.  BTW even setup a website and posted pictures of it all there -  http://www.craigstuff.comli.com/  A lot of unnecessary work!
