Title: Volume RAM Disk is Full
Post by: scuzzb494 on October 27, 2015, 05:24:45 PM
Odd this... fired up my Ateo Concepts A4000 in a tower and after a struggle the screen pops up with this error message saying that Volume RAM Disk is Full. It then states that intuition is trying to close a window and can't load Buddha attapi-device Unit 0... I had to shut down cus this was leading me down a very deep hole.

Interestingly the boot screen opens on a very nice graphical image stating Amiga Graphics Computer Systems.

I need to strip back to the board and reseat everything. I really was only checking for the battery, which is a coin style so no real problems. This has a great facility that allows you to slide the motherboard out from the main casing. Big though... very tall.

Finally did get to boot, though by using floppy. No memory being registered. Sysinfo picked up the boards but very little else. Project for another day.

This is the computer. Don't think I have ever fired her up. Been sitting there for like eight years I would guess. Maybe more. Was an interesting little venture this as I found a Checkmate in the same location.. very very heavy.

That concludes my battery check for the year. Only have one 2000HD with a barrel on now. Probably take it off next year.

The intuition message is popping up due to the dialog box that appears regarding the unit 0 not being found on the buddah... This happens when IPrefs is trying to change the screen mode and there's a window or dialog box open.
So is there a cdrom drive? What's this memory issue you have? How much ram is there supposed to be? How much fast ram and chip ram is free according to the workbench menu (when booting from floppy workbench disk)?

The problems I am having at the moment relate to storing kit for long periods and allowing the hard drives to dry up. Also I guess they have become unstable as the circuits are not fully being activated. Sounds obvious. This machine has probably never been switched on to be honest since I got her. I am just starting to get to the bottom of it. I need to strip the cards out and reseat everything. I can probably get the machine working if I can get the hard drives loose enough. I just had a similar problem with an A2000HD which took three goes before the hard drive finally kicked into gear. She is running fine now. I have more confidence in the 3.5" than 2.5".

Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on. This machine looks a crackin' bit of gear. Dunno why I have ignored her for so long.

PS I didn't answer your questions cus in truth I just don't know. The board looks like an Amiga processor, that I can see. But with the PicassoIV in the way I cannot see the remainder of the board. The machine is not responding to SysInfo... and the Workbench from the floppy is registering 0 memory. All pretty bogus though until the computer can finally kick into gear.

Feel like my brother at the moment trying to get his old BSA working on a cold morning.

I'll keep you posted.

That happens when you're hoarding  so much Amiga's...

I agree. It may already be leaking but you just can't see it yet at first glance. Plus, you should do it before you forget...

I bought the Amiga from the guy that was heavily involved with the German version of the Amiga Big Book. It was placed on there brand new. I can't really forget the A2000 as it sits right in front of me most of the time. Bit like the 3000T's and 4000T. Takes pride of place. I have some experience of 2000s and the battery location and I have been watching this battery each and every year. It's fine. I will likely take it off next year.

I collect old computers. Have been doing so for the last 34 years I guess. Love em to death. Interestingly I get gifted loads of stuff. Mostly on the proviso I photograph and store the kit so those giving it to me know where it is and can see images on the website. Has also cost me a lot of money. In my very active period in the early 2000s I spent upward of £30000 on the collection. And what is really odd is that I have only ever bought around 3 or 4 A1200's and yet I have over 25. Found another today as I was trying to find a Typhoon. Mostly they were given to me when I went to pick up other machines.

The most surprised I have ever been is during a meeting in respect of my work and this person came over to me and gave me a cardboard box. Inside was a KIM... as a gift. Happens.

So yes hoarding, but in truth a lot of what I have wouldn't be in existence now if I hadn't taken the time and effort to hoard it. I have very little house. Just endless fun.

By the way my first computer was a load of knitting needles and a hole punch and a few hundred index cards. I discovered the holes punched could either be held in place by the needle or if I cut the hole to form a slot it would fall off the needle. So a complete hole was answer yes and a slot answer no. Now have multiple holes along an edge and enter slots or holes to multiple questions. When you locate the needles though the holes and let the cards drop only those left hanging off the needles would be yes to the selected questions. Even before I had left school in 1972 I had created my first crude binary code... holes or slots... 0100100100 etc. And trust me in those days we only had logs and slide rules. Never even seen a computer.... and so the love affair began.

Gotta go.. Also love MMOs.
