Gorky 17 release imminent
Brussels, October 3, 2015

Hyperion Entertainment is very pleased to announce the imminent release of the long awaited adventure/strategy/RPG crossover game Gorky 17 originally by Metropolis Software House for AmigaOS! After a long twelve years since its original announcement, the AmigaOS port of Gorky 17 became almost what was Duke Nukem Forever for the PC world. Yet, we made it in two years less ;)

In order to ensure the highest possible quality, Hyperion Entertainment commissioned Frank Menzel and Thomas Claus, who are well known for their original games for AmigaOS 4 under the Entwickler-X (http://www.entwickler-x.de/) label, to stabilize, optimize, enhance and last, not least, to finalize the AmigaOS port of Gorky 17. The result of their work speaks for itself and shows their high level of professionalism, which allows us now to rightfully claim that the AmigaOS port of Gorky 17 represents the best version of Gorky 17 released on any platform, ever!

Exclusive main features of the AmigaOS version:

  • High resolution support by free choice of screenmode
  • English, German, Spanish (text & speech) and French (text only)
  • Mouse wheel support
  • Highly optimized game engine and video player
Minimum requirements:

  • Amiga with 500MHz CPU or faster
  • 256MB of memory
  • Graphics card (Warp3D compatibility recommended!)
  • 700MB of free disk space
  • AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition
Production is already in progress, all registered dealers got informed about the now available pre-orders and the official start of sales will be the week of October 19, 2015. Get in touch with your preferred dealer to place your personal pre-order!

But there is more to it! In cooporation with Alinea Computer (http://www.alinea-computer.de/), Hyperion Entertainment will celebrate 30 years of AmigaOS and the release of Gorky 17 by making Gorky 17's pre-release debut at the Amiga 30th anniversary event (http://www.amiga30.de/) in Neuss, Germany on October 10, 2015 in form of a strictly limited-amount of early bird units sold separately for 34,95 Euro SRP as well as part of a special fair-super-bundle consisting of:

  • Gorky 17 for AmigaOS
  • Gorky 17 poster
  • "powered by AmigaOS" t-shirt
  • "30th anniversary" sticker
  • "AmigaOS" notepad
... at a heavily discounted fair-price of 50,- Euro incl. VAT*) in contrary to the regular price of about 65,- Euro incl. VAT.

We all hope you enjoy this fantastic news as much as we do and will stop by at our booths in Neuss on October 10... cheers!

*) German VAT currently 19%. Offer only valid directly at the fair, for the duration of the fair and as long as supply lasts. Subject to errors.

That's not the point of the release.

I just bought the PC version on Steam for $0.76, so probably not.

Nooo... I was expecting Gorky to run on CSPPC. On paper, there shouldn't be that much requirements that it wouldn't run on OS3.x&WarpOS and classic PPC.

But anyhow, I welcome this port!

There is discussion and hopefully false information on Steam about Amiga conversion being without permission:

If Hyperion wants to release any Gorky 17 title, they need to have an agreement with TopWare Interactive AG (because we own the trademark and all rights to the game title - this is easy to find out at OAMI patent office, patent runs until 2019 and will be extended to 2029). But however, we will try to talk with them. Not all disputes need to end up in a court case. Sometimes there are other solutions.

Let the games begin...

35 euro for pre order or 50 euro for main release.... or $6.00 NZD on Steam. Hmmm.

Oh "at a heavily discounted fair-price of 50,- Euro incl. VAT*) in contrary to the regular price of about 65,- Euro incl. VAT."

Heavily means 15 euros? LOL

There are some problems with his claims, he didn't seems to know any of other ports. Not even MacOS port already excist and there is a also a Linux port. Runesoft / Hyperion / Linux game publishing

He tries to sell wine version of this game to MacOS x users.

They (he) might or might not own Gorky 17 IP now, but he didn't seems to know anything about game history? Really weird...

Is it possible that Hyperions old licence has runned out? I'm not saying it has, I'm just wondering since the deal is a decade old.

HAHAHAHAH!! I was LITERALLY verbalizing the exact same statement you just posted here without reading what you posted here....:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:I was thinking out loud to my head, "Oh! I have to spend 3k for an outdated hardware and spend 50 Euro for a game I can already get on a very POWERFUL gaming PC with a video card that kicks butt even to all modern consoles out there for just $6 USA.....hmmmmm

hmmmm....let me see......spend 3K for an outdated hardware+50 Euro for the game...or....OR.....spend just $6 for a hardware I already have that is superior to X1000 in all regards. Can I think this through first?:rofl:

You sound awfully familiar.

I just want to see the Amiga platform take off again I don't think this I the right way to do it.

We need cheap affordable hardware/ software.

I know that the Robin Hood licence for MorphOS expired some years ago. From what I know licences are rarely issued indefinetely, and it seem that HE got their license over 10 years ago. It might be so that the license is still valid but it would be nice to know for sure (especially since the right holderd says it's not valid) so this doesn't turn into another guess based bashing.

Seems obvious to me but.... Something (anything) has been commercially made for an Amiga platform.  *if* there is a license issue, I hope it is smoothly worked out. *if* its higher priced than some want to spend I assume they will just not buy it.  As far as hardware goes... are we seriously still talking about our niche hobby computers not matching up to mainstream computing platforms in terms of price/power?  This is for fun!  If you love this hobby and can afford it you pay for it, then please do so we can keep encouraging development.  Otherwise there are tons of platform options, or we can even just keep playing with our classic machines.
Whereas everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, I just think we should be applauding any commercial or hobby development on any of our Amiga related platforms.

This guy has been in court over copyright before.

http://www.vrworld.com/2013/02/11/interplay-wins-in-the-battle-chess-saga-against-topware-and-southpeak/

His claims might well backfire on him quite badly if he can't prove that Metropolis signed over all rights for Gorky17 to Topware.

Correct. Apa said 'a new game'... Harmless play on English from me.
I'm on this forum apa, because it's so inactive that even I can keep up with new posts and generally not miss a thing.

Anything "new" on the market is positive yeah? But all the noise is always about cost and rights. Bloom and grow vs shrivel and die, for me. Though running other OSs on Amiga hardware is where I diverge.

The thrust of takeoff must be full of product.

It would be cool to see some high-res screenshots of this game...perhaps side by side compared to pc version 640x480 just to highlight the enhancement of the game.

50 Euros? What a rip-off. It's 4.99 on Steam for the peecee.

You're right 50 Euros is a total rip-off, and then you'd also need a SAM or other New-Gen Amiga OS4 hardware, as there's no option to run it on a lower spec Classic PPC carded Amiga, or even a version to run it on MorphOS. It's also an old game anyway, that's way past its sell-by-date, and doesn't seem to be even as good as many of the converted PC games, starting with Return to Castle Wolfenstein or even one of the Star Wars Jedi Knight series or even Arx Libertatis (Fatalis).

Is 50 euros for a great game, a shirt, a poster and other extras a rip-off?  Do you cry when you poop too?

The game costs 34.95 euros and thats a great price for a commercial game for amiga in 2015.

I don't either see the price as a problem considering how much work that has to be done for such low sales. If you think Steam has the best price, then go ahead and use a computer that has Steam.

It's not Hyperions duty to make miracles.

Oh well... At least they released it. Price is OK if based on the actual development time + market size... People can buy old games for hundreds of euros/dollars on Ebay sometimes, which doesn't make much sense either.

I remember spending some good time with this game... At the end of the 90s ! I was in high school back then... Reviews were average, though.

i have removed a bunch of posts that were off-topic to the sock drawer (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=69902). for those engaged in replying to a certain user making a certain accusation, please continute your discussion there. otherwise, let's keep this thread only about gorky 17's release on AOS4, OK?

besides, there's already a great site (http://amiga.org/forums/showpost.php?p=685422&postcount=23) available for the, er, other kind of "discussion."
