DirOpus 4 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/diropus4/) has just received another update, this time to version 4.18.44 (link (http://sourceforge.net/projects/diropus4/files/DirectoryOpus4-OS4/)). According to amiga-news.de (http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2015-08-00002-EN.html), the changes in this build are:
- Fixed directory sizes displayed in a lister when searching for a filename (or pattern) in multiple directories with the hunt command.
- Fixed a hunt command failure to highlight the found file when the file was located in a subdirectory of the directory being searched. When the user selected the OK button in the "Shall I go there?" requester, the hunt command would display a requester stating that the file was not found but then load the directory where the file was located.
- Fixed a crash in the Dopus4 text viewer. If Dopus4 was on the Workbench screen and the text viewer was open when the user quit the Dopus4 program, the viewer would crash (Grim Reaper).
- Fixed a bug in Dopus_Print that prevented updating of the output filename in the requester.
- Changed makefiles to create 'stabs' debug binaries and improve compiler output readability. All Dopus4 components will now display specific function information in a stack trace if there is a failure when running debug binaries.
- Replaced all internal string functions and unbounded 'C' library string functions with size limited 'C' library string functions to eliminate possible buffer overflows.
- Replaced all deprecated memory allocation functions with new OS4 memory allocation functions.
- Replaced all deprecated message related functions with new OS4 functions.
- Fixed all compiler warnings to make it easier to spot new warnings.
- Added a missing Tooltype to the DirectoryOpus icon.
- Changed the copyright data in about window.
- Updated copyright data in english DirectoryOpus.guide.
- Updated history files.
Many folks may not be aware that both DirOpus 4 and DirOpus 5 remain under active development. The new DirOpus 4 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/diropus4) builds are only for AOS4, but DirOpus 5 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/dopus5allamigas/) builds are available for AOS3, AOS4, and AROS. Check them out! Thanks to amiga-news.de for the changelog. :)

Do you know who's maintaining DOpus4 these days? There's a new bug/feature that's been in the OS4 version since it came into being years ago. Whenever you uniconify the program it reloads the directory windows. And if you're like me, you have DOpus auto start iconified (as window) at boot time. And if you're also like me, you have the default directories set to be blank/empty. And if you reload a blank directory (same effect as pressing Enter in an empty path string) DOpus will load the directory it was started from. So whenever I go into DOpus after boot I'm presented with SYS:DirOpus4/ instead of blank windows.
Would love to be able to go back to the uniconify behavior that the OS3 version had!

@Matt_H
that's a good point. i've never liked that behavior, either. i think the maintainer these days is xenic, but he doesn't have an account here. you can try sending him a PM on amigaworld.net or amigans.net where he does. let us know what he says. :)

DirOpus 5 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/dopus5allamigas/) builds are available for AOS3, AOS4, and AROS. Check them out! Thanks to amiga-news.de for the changelog. :)
If there is demand I can build MorphOS binaries for DOpus4 and 5.
-
Too bad it's not updated for OS3.x. :(
-
I second that. Why no version for O.S. 3.1? :confused: Considering that there are more O.S. 3.x users than O.S. 4.x users.

+1

+1
because the programmer solely interested in 4.X?

@thread
the developer is working on OS3 builds, actually. he was working in the OS3 trunk just a a couple of weeks ago. the project is for OS3, OS4, and MOS. it's just that the only one actively working on it is xenic, and he's only working on the OS3 and OS4 branches. but anyone can pitch in if they'd like: it's open-source. i'm sure he'd appreciate some help! :)
if/when there are updates of DOpus for any platform, i'll be sure to post it in the news section, like i do for any major software update out there. ;)

No he's not. MorphOS developer Polluks uploaded a bunch of missing catalog files to the MOS and OS3 branches a few weeks ago, and Jeff simply fixed a wrong "executable" property on one of those files.
the project is for OS3, OS4, and MOS.
Nobody has done any real work on the OS3 version since about 2003. In 2008, there was a port of the OS3 version to MorphOS, which hasn't been improved since then. The only version that is still actively developed, is the OS4 branch.

@cgutjahr
thanks for the correction. sounds like an opportunity for a classic developer out there, then. anyone interested?

I always loved DOpus and it's great it's still actively being developed. I prefer version 4 not 5 but that's just me. It would be cool to see a version for MorphOS too.
-
always a pleasure to see my favourite file management program for my miggy and PC being actively updated so thanks to all involved!

There definitely is. The MorphOS port of DOpus4 could really use an update.

Ok. I can check it out although it seems there has been mostly cosmetic changes.

I would love to see the bug crashing the system when changing the settings on an amiga not running the default resolution removed. (if such fix already isn't made)....
That would be all i need from dopus 4, the best file browes i have ever touched for any operating system. ever......

@ Eliyahu
The http://www.dopus5.org site with the daily builds for Dopus 5, is down some time ago.

As far as the OS3 version is concerned, I believe that bug (system crashes when opening config window if screen is set to more than 8 colors) was fixed long ago. See here: http://aminet.net/package/util/dopus/DOpus416JRbin
The final OS3 version was 4.17beta21 and is pretty much rock solid on my OS3 and MorphOS systems. Hopefully it's still online somewhere. I remember reading that the source code for that beta series was lost, unfortunately.
-
Yea, I think you can still get most of the beta's here....

Nah - that's not just you.
You can count me in as well (OS 3.9)...

Am I the only one who find it strange that there is a fork of DOpus4 for each OS, instead of common development?
