Now that all these changes have been implemented, the chances of this site going back to anything like it was before are pretty slim.
So I might as well say my piece and bid farewell to Amiga.org
I've been using this site since 2000 (4 years!) and the main attraction was always the latest forum posts on the home page. The new design relegates the forums to a virtual closet; one which I refuse to dig around in for a chance to read an amusing post or relevant amiga question.
Whoever approved these drastic layout changes (not to mention the hideous colour scheme)-- congratulations. It is you who has sealed the fate of this site- sit back and watch your membership dwindle while Amiga.org fades into history like the Amiga itself.
It's clunky, it's complicated, it's obscure, and most of all, it was unnecessary. I doubt this post will be popular, though I will probably never know, because I dont think I can be bothered going through all the rigmarole of finding this post again to read any replies!
Not happy Jan.

It's a little sad that you've made that decision when by all accounts the transition isn't even complete yet.

There's no *blush* smiley.
My humble apologies for my sudafed induced rant there... My bookmark for Amiga.org has always been http://www.amiga.org/modules/news ... which is where the default www.amiga.org/ used to take you anyway.
I take it all back... www.amiga.org still has the beloved top 10 posts, the modules/news/ page actually has news, I have the flu and a propensity to let rip occasionally.
I'm going to go crawl into that corner over there for a while.

*edit*
Ah, OK...nice to hear you changed your mind. ;-)

Well, I'm not certain I like it when people implement an incomplete design. It's like people that take their websites offline with an "Under Construction" banner on the front page. "You'll love the new site!", they say. Yeah, you just have to wait for a few months before it's ready, meanwhile, the original site doesn't work at ALL. :-)
After getting PHP to cooperate with my favorite Oekaki board (which took about 2 weeks due to a PHP documentation oversight), I can now test all my code fully long before it's used online.
Then again, I'm not a big fan of Xoops, but this is still my favorite forum, anyway. :-)

Hey, change it inevitable, and many times it's for the better. Who knows. That's what every technological advance in the past was about. Maybe they didn't want to look all cookie cutter like most of the other messages boards? Huh, maybe?

It could be worse.....
The site could be turning yellow under UV radiation, like all of our Amigas have!!

Viewing the news page you won't find it, but we can tweak it so you still see the forum posts on the news pages. I've not seen that request yet so I'll add it to the list of things to change if I hear another person second the notion.
Whoever approved these drastic layout changes ... congratulations. It is you who has sealed the fate of this site...
In essence, it's the other way around really. We asked the community several times over and over for a new header, color scheme, and overall layout that would work without breaking xoops. Not one person stepped up to the request until we already finished it. The only person who offered is "im>be", after making the attempt to contact him though I never heard another word. The lack of response could be my fault as my email server was a bit flakey around that time. Since we didn't have anyone willing to help us, one of the developers put a header together. We could not use the old header system (not just graphics) due to the new template system Xoops2 uses.
Feel free to add comments though. Regardless of the content, it's always constructive unless the post is nothing but trolling.

8-) Ahem. Yes, there is.
I'm going to go crawl into that corner over there for a while.
;-) It's all right, we all make mistakes. Even I made a mistake, once. (I'd thought I was wrong about something, but it turned out that I'd been right....)

Welcome back, we missed you:-)

Whinge, whine, moan, {bleep}, complain
[joke!]
I mean, I have really come to like the site now! The latest posts and the way they are divided is cool. The layout is good and the site looks good.
The only minor thing is, when surfing in from the lastposts page, it will always take you to the first page of the topic. Also, it'd be nice to see who the last poster on a topic is before reading it - but these are really minor things! Great site Wayne and all, thanks for all your hard work. Keep it up!

I do wish people would generally learn not to rant first and apologise later.
Ask nicely first if you think there are discepancies in (whatever, be it software or a site, etc), then when you have confirmed something to criticise, go ahead.

Hi mikeymike,
The only thing I miss (a little bit) is the date in the latest newspost section on the front page. Just a small thing really :-)
If you click the newspost it then shows the date and how many people have read it.
Bye,
Spidey
