Hello
I just bought a Opalvision card and I tired to found more information about card.
I did knew that it is a sort of Graphics card without proper RTG support. So I don't wait it to promote OS to Opalvision screen.
I found this Although the card is not an RTG card, serveral 3rd party products allow you to use the Opalvision as a display device
but search from Aminet didn't tell a much. Only thing I could found is Real3D driver DEMO. Is there a full version availlable somewhere and what are other programs to use with Opalvision?
I have heard tha Opal Paint is very good? There is even a one game for OpalVision, King Of Karate, it must be one of the rarest games wich people has seen in live action.
When I searched info about card I noticed that there is NONE videoslot only cards wich has a rtg support?? Is there a reason for that?

obviously King of Karate is the killer app:)

The opal vision is basically a frame store/grabber type card. it can display a nice backdrop on workbench but it is not a RTG graphics card really. It was designed for opal paint and what they mentioned above.
proper rtg cards are zorro2/3 usually and use the video slot for the flickerfixer/scan doubler(like the picasso IV card). other proper rtg cards are retina z3,cybervision64,cv64/3d,spectrum etc

Terrific card if you solely want to run the Opal Suite.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I did seek information of that card, places like BBOAH and amiga.resource.cx. Opal softwaresuite was first thing I found.
Quote in first post is from BBOAH. So what are those third party products wich supports Opalvision? And is there somewhre full version of Reald3D Opalvision driver? I would be interested Real3D 1.4 drivers as I'm very used to it.

Ask Amikit about Real3d. The package was made available for free and he used to have a download for it. It may still be available in that form. He would know.
Magic Lantern was the animation package most people used and not part of the suite.

I don't know if it's still available.
If you have AdPro, then you can download the opalvision saver from aminet, if it is not in your AdPro package. "saver" really means the ability to view images on your opalvision from AdPro.
There may be other s/w, but this is all that I have seen running on opalvision in the day.

I think I have one in a box in storage that I used on an A3000 for a while before I upgraded it to the A4000D I have now. Never found it to be much more than frustrating in a post RTG graphics card Amiga world.

I see that Aladdin 4D also lists opalvision support.
Direct support of CyberGraphX, DCTV, Toaster, Retina, OpalVision and standard Amiga modes including HAM8, 24-bit IFF and more

It's worth searching both amiga.org and amigaworld too for threads with opalvision as keyword.

One last question.
I have spare GVP Spectrum and I'm planning to use it with Opalvision, would it be a problem?
-
I'd have thought ImageFX would support Opalvision too.
-
Not that it matters much these days, but the Opalvision's output was genlockable.

No idea, but if you decide you don't want that "spare GVP Spectrum", I'd be glad to take it off your hands.

Art Department Pro supported it ad well. Only paint program with direct support, though, was Opalpaint IIRC. but it was far better than the paint program for the Video Toaster which was basically DigiPaint which, and again this is coming from memory, painted in Amiga HAM mode and 'rendered' to the Video Toaster for final display so what you painted on was not necessarily fully WYSIWYG but an approximation. This board is more like the DCTV and HAM-E boards for the Amiga than 'real' graphics cards that went in the Zorro II and III slots. If I know how they worked, it was to encode the information in the video stream being sent through the video port (or slot in the case of Opalvision) and the card would decode that to create the proper display with more colors than the Amiga could produce. This is why when you view DCTV programs without the DCTV you see garbled screens where you can vaguely make out the user interface elements. Video port sends the data at video speed, which in my understanding was slower than the proper expansion slots. Advantages to HAM-E, DCTV and Opalvision is that they added more capabilities to Amiga video much more cheaply then full video cards, were standard TV video so they could integrate into the same broadcast and video equipment that the Amiga natively could, and did not require a separate and more expensive VGA monitor and a scandoubler to pull the Amiga video over to the RTG VGA monitor like the Picasso IV and Cybervision 64/3D does. Another 'advantage' of Opalvision would have been if the Video Processor was ever released. You can see on the board the socket for the Roaster chip and headers for connecting the Framebuffer RAM board and other parts of the Video Processor which would have expanded the Opalvision into a much more capable Video Toaster With all the CG, switching, chromakey and genlock capabilities of that board. Unfortunately this was never released and is one of the most famous pieces of Amiga Vaporware. It seems to me it was pretty far along development and is one of the real tragic stories of Amiga 3rd party development and some strange/bad business decisions. I have one so it did exist, even has ready for retail packaging. Have not connected it to my Opalvision yet to see if any of it works. This will be an episode of our TheGuruMeditation.org youtube channel for sure one day. That all said, I don't see a reason it would not work with the GVP Soectrum since I don't think that board pulls Amiga video at all. It will display what you tell it to using the Picasso 96 or Cybergraphx drivers. Opalvision should display anything being sent using the standard Amiga graphics modes including its own software. Only issue you might have is if you use Mode promotion which might try to grab the Amiga screens to 'upgrade' them to the RTG screenmodes.

OP: What to do with Opalvision card?
Just resell it on Ebay. Remember to put the word "RARE" in the description and charge at least $500 for it. If you dont know how to do it, just follow for example what the known overpriced Amiga hungarian reseller does.

lol! Sorry to be OT, but the only time I ever click on that particular seller's items would be when the price seems "reasonable". It is then that I find out that it's a "RARE computer, video output doesn't work unless you stand on your head" or just outright non-working.
Not sure who buys from him.
