USB 2.0 card for PCMCIA slot (http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=36844&item=2789563386) ... why will it or why won´t it work on an A1200 ?? Some pc network cards do work, so why not a card like this ???

I doubt there are any drivers for it, however if it is a 16-bit card then in theory it should work.

It says cardbus on it, so its 32bit.

besides the speed of usb 2.0 is 480 Mbits/sec
much to fast for the 16bit pcmcia port on amiga.

Does that mean that usb transfer would be too slow ??? I don´t ask this with the intention of hooking up a 52x cdrewriter, anything slower will also be nice. Is it the USB 2.0 that is too fast or is it the card itself ??? Would a USB 1.1 card be better ???

Cardbus is interfaced differently than PCMCIA, so it just won't work even if you did have the drivers.
Also, the A1200's PCMCIA port won't feed a 52x CD-RW at max speed. USB 1.1 won't cut it either - it's more like 4x maximum.

Okay, I get it. Cardbus seems to be the troublemaker :(

BEsides, you would need to get drivers, and a USB-stack for the card. I doubt that they exist (drivers)... :(

Dont buy this card! It's cardbus type, so it dont works in Amiga PCMCIA port. Only 16 Bits PCMCIA type II works in Amiga. And yes you need the Amiga Driver too.

That's one of my pet peeves. WHY do people sell Cardbus cards as PCMCIA cards on online auctions.

Hello There. The Reason ( CardBus ) Cards are sold as PCMCIA is that; ( CardBus ) is the Newer PCMCIA Standard.
Here is a BreakeDown.
Type I and Type II PCMCIA Cards are 16-Bit Cards.
The Amiga 600's and Amiga 1200's have a type II PCMCIA Slot.
A type II Slot is Compatible with Type I and Type II Cards.
( CardBus ) Or Type III PCMCIA Card's are 32-Bit PCMCIA Cards.
If you were to get a Type II to Type III Adapter then you
would be able to use Type III ( CardBus ) cards in either
an Amiga-600 or An Amiga-1200.

This is incorrect. Types I, II and III refer to different card thicknesses.
AFAIK, all cardbus/32-bit cards have an extra grounding strip on the end that's inserted into the computer. This is usually a gold colour and can be seen on the auction page linked to by the original poster. This is very useful for identifying CardBus cards. If a card has that strip, you can forget about it as far as the Amiga is concerned.
Also, I don't think any 16-bit PCMCIA USB interfaces exist (or ISA ones for that matter).

Thickness? If you mean physical thickness, I believe you´re talking crazy... :)
I have a WLan PCMCIA card in my laptop, which does have the extra gold coloured grounding strip you refer to, but it is not any thicker/thinner than an older network card ( PCMCIA type 2) I have. Atleast not noticably...

What I meant was that the "Type" of a card has nothing to do with whether its 16-bit or 32-bit. For example, you can have Type I CardBus cards and Type III 16-bit cards. Most cards, whether 16- or 32-bit, are Type II. Type I cards (the thinnest) are usually memory cards, while Type III cards are usually combo cards or hard drives.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure the Amiaga's PCMCIA port could do faster than USB1.1, surely not USB2.0 but still a little faster.
I'm saying this because the Squirrel SCSI interface reaches 3MB/s (more, around 3.5 I think) wich is ways faster than USB1.1 (12Mb/s = 1.5MB/s)

Thickness:
Type I - 3.3mm
Type II - 5.0mm
Type III - 10.5mm
