Amigans out there, I need your help in knowing which model of Radeon 3D card is used and recommended for a SAM460EX, AmigaOS4.1 FE, and to be supported by Southern Islands drivers.
I want to upgrade my original Radeon RV730 card for a 3D card, but I don't want to buy the wrong card; they are not cheap.
Thanks in advance for any help.

we had a discussion on this a while back; see if this thread (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=69047) is helpful to you. are there any requirements besides compatibility with W3D? do you require a single-slot card, for example? this visiontek 7750 might be just what you need: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129263

You might want to check to see if an HD 7750 works correctly in a SAM460, the driver works fine but SAM boards have some issues with higher end Radeon HD card.
The 7750 would be about ideal. It is available as both a standard and low profile card, it is relatively low draw, and its really powerful.
I eventually expect to see MorphOS 2d/3d support for this series in addition to the AOS support (and its likely to be packaged with the OS - not sold seperately at an additional cost).
I have a Radeon HD7750 installed in a Dell HTPC I have tied to my living room tv.
It works great.

Would this one work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161418&cm_re=radeon_hd_7750-_-14-161-418-_-Product
I have added some pictures of my case and interior to give you all an idea of the space and components inside my system. Please see pictures at this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7lra4anyz5vhffp/AABuvWOpDCqINBpVQSVlF-HZa?dl=0

Yes, that card uses DDR5, so it should work fine.
Great price too.
I might have to buy one myself.
That should really accelerate you SAM's performance.
-
This one looks like the fan will block the PCI slot also.

Yes in that regard the Visiotek card previously mentioned would have an advantage.

Thank you all for your answers. I managed to find and bought VisionTek AMD Radeon HD 7750 SFF 1GB x16 PCIe (900549 Radeon HD 7750 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card), low profile.
Now I'll buy the SI drivers and wait to receive the card in about a week from now.

VERY cool.
That should kick ass.
A PCI-e Envy24 sound card and a PCI SATA card would round the whole thing out.

Thank you for the recommendations of additional hardware. I'd definitely take a look into those, as soon as my wife forgives me for this latest investment :hammer:

Double check to make sure the Visiontek card uses DDR5, DDR3 cards won't work under OS4.

This model does use DDR5.(It is the one that I use) The next thing is making sure that the fan on the low profile card is not blocked by the PCI sata card .
One option but you give up the pciex1 slot .

Better option but you need a large enough case and a pcie extender cable.

The PCI-e extender is a good idea. They are cheap. I have a few around if you need one.
I can even let you have an X1 adapter that connects via a USB cable to an external X16 connection (I have several of those).
