Title: floppy cable requrements a1200
Post by: bomrat on June 10, 2015, 04:14:02 AM
hi, I want to install the geotek floppy emulator, I picked one up.
I want to make sure I am using the right type of cable.
looks like wire 4,5,6 is swapped on my cable.  is this the right one?
also what size and format should I use for a usb drive.
thanks

@bomrat
- are you saying that there is a sort of "twist" in the cable?  The right cable that you need is the straight data cable (the one with no twist).  If you have a look at the cable that is plugged into the floppy drive from the motherboard you will find that it is straight.

- In terms of what USB you need, generally just any USB drive will do the trick.  However, there have been reports of some that do not work.  Make sure that when you plug it into your gotek, it comes up with "000" on the display.  This is how you know the USB is working.

- With regards to the format needed, you basically just need a USB drive with the format it has when purchased.  No need to change the format.

- Any size USB will usually do.  I have seen some people having trouble with larger sizes such as 32 GB, but then again there are others who have successfully used external hard-drives.

Hope it works for you :)
