So what are the advantages or differences between the two other than the obvious age? I was thinking of getting one for just games but not really sure what would be better? I like the fact the 600HD has a built in hard drive but that can be added to the 500 if my info is right.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to easily run all the games from floppy I would go with the A500. The A600 has a newer ROM which has some incompatibilites but you can always use Relokick. If you want a whdload machine then the A600HD is a better choice. It has more chipmem and a hard drive. You can add a hard drive and megi chip to the A500 though. The machines are pretty similar and both can be customized to make up for the differences. I would probably go with the A600 due to its smaller footprint.

The A600 has some sweet new accelerators in the pipeline, which may or may not make it to the A500, if/when they're released/finalized. Other than that, they're both very customizable (for the right amount of $$). Six of one, half dozen of another. Only dealbreaker? No numeric keypad on the A600. Personally that's a big deal for me (and I know some games require it). But again, others couldn't care less. ;)

If you can afford it, buy both.

If you are going to play games, then both the A500 and A600 are a good alternatives. Install a Gotek drive and cram hundreds of games onto a memory card and you are ready to go. ;) You can buy it pre-flashed on eBay for a bit over £20.

I'd personally go for the A500 for gaming, since it can run anything that is not AGA (Amiga 1200/4000). I remember the 600 having troubles with several games back in the days. Although you can use degrader tools and Relokick 1.3 to avoid this, the A500 works right out of the box.
