One Brian Bagnall just contacted me to let me know that he has setup a Facebook page for his long-delayed but finally-forthcoming book "Commodore: The Amiga Years", the sequel to "Commodore: A Company On The Edge".

More importantly, he has announced the launch date for the Kickstarter campaign, and tells me there will be lots of cool backer rewards. The big day is June 15th.

Yeah, I saw that too.

Just a humble reminder to support this Kickstarter if you would like to see the book:

I thought the rewards were pretty good. I pledged $35 and opted for the PDF version of the book.

I dont understand why writing a book needs to be funded with kickstarter?

@midway
sounds like he couldn't get it published by a third-party publisher, so he's raising the money to self-publish the book. but that's just a guess, of course.

I've supported many books on Kickstarter, as well as video games, etc. All of them well worth it, so much more involvement from the publisher than just clicking "add this to my cart" on Amazon, ya know?
Honestly I get a little angry when I read some of the hate for Kickstarter on various forums. Here's a few of the things I've backed recently, that were it not for Kickstarter would never have seen the light of day:

I'm sold on the concept and can't think of many things I would buy *without* a Kickstarter campaign, these days. My tastes are rather eclectic and "outside of the mainstream" - it's like a band starting a Kickstarter because the "music industry" doesn't see value in a product, whereas their fans do.
Anyhow, TL;DR. Rant over. I'll be going to that cat cafe (from the Kickstarter above) soon, and looking forward to it! :kitty:

Our old friend and author Brian Bagnall is producing TWO new Commodore Books:
Commodore: The Early Years
and
Commodore Amiga Years
Brian's Kickstarter campaign has been a huge success so far so take a look at it and provide your support for an accomplished Commodore author by purchasing his new books at:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1462758959/commodore-the-amiga-years-book/
Take a look at Brian's promo video for the new Amiga book:

"Hello! I'm Brian Bagnall and I want to tell you the story of Commodore during the Amiga years. Commodore produced my favorite computers in the eighties and for years I waited for someone to write a book about those incredible times. Strangely, it seemed like publishers were only interested in talking about Apple, Microsoft and IBM. It's time to give the Commodore Amiga some credit as the first commercially successful multimedia computer.
Take a journey from Amiga's beginnings in 1982 to when Commodore filed for bankruptcy in 1994. Dozens of brilliant and motivated engineers produced a computer with graphics, sound and multitasking capabilities years ahead of Apple and IBM. A lot happened in that decade, and this book will describe to you the most relevant parts in a definitive history of the Amiga story and Commodore's final descent..."

Canceled Amazon order and backed the kickstarter instead :)

I signed up at the $78 reward. I misread the text a bit so I had the impression that I would get three physical books. Later I noticed that I will get two physical books, and the last book "Commodore: The early years" will be delivered as an ebook only.
I then tried to search for that book to see if it was for sale anywhere, but could not find it.
Does anyone know if it is available or perhaps this book is not released yet?
And I dont mean this item: http://cmsmotorsport.com.au/shop/commodore-the-early-years/ :)

It's not released yet. And I think you can change your pledge with Paypal. Mail the author and ask.
