Maybe he is dyslexia?

I hate Classic Workbench.  Hate the way it changes stuff around, makes it "un Amiga-ish" to me.  You're better to build and configure your system yourself.  But I get that some people don't have time/energy/knowledge for this, so to each their own.  Good luck!  :)

A proposed "Upgrade" to the original post:
Quote
Well, I have updated my Amiga’s Workbench to “Classic WorkBench”
As noted in the title of this thread, I have updated my WorkBench to “Classic WorkBench,” and now that my computer is outfitted with an ACA 1233/40 MHz Accelerator plus 128MB RAM, programs appear to load a lot faster and the access to the Internet was improved as well.

Of note, I did receive help from the group at LAG 43 today with both the software update and hardware upgrade.

The question in my mind is will Mcbone (the op, a beginner with only 22 posts) ever bother returning to this site after some of these responses?

We aren't trying to run people off, right?  We do want a larger, more diversified community?

We Helped mcbone instal Classic Workbench Full on his A1200 with ACA 1232/40mhz System at Lincs Amiga Group on the 2nd May :-) He wants to try to go online with it soon too.

Personally I think the Classic Workbench packs are brilliant for those who don't have time to setup AmigaOS With all the niceties and handy applications that make life a little easier - myself included :)

I'm sure at the next meeting we can get a TCP/IP Stack and a web browser installed and go online in glorious AGA

Be sure the PCMCIA network card is a 16bit card, also going for wifi or wired?

You will need to install MiamiDX (or any prefeered TCP/IP stack), then you need to install the drivers, Prism 2 compatible cards are quite easy to find. Then CardReset and CardPatch.

I can give you the lines needed for startup-sequence to get it rolling :)

Edit: Are you talking about MorphOS for PPC macs or for Classic Amigas with PPC cards? You need a PPC card to run the classic MorphOS on Amiga. You can shoehorn in AROS on your Amiga but with a 030 that ain't to practical yet xD

Hi mcbone,

Do you mean you can't see a Compact Flash card on your Workbench when you plug it into the PCMCIA Slot with it's adapter?

Classic Workbench doesn't come with CF0 In Devs:DosDrivers/ In my haste I might have forgotten to copy it on Saturday.

If you search Aminet for cfd.lha - The file you need should be in there.

Robert.
Title: Well World, I have updated my A1200's standard Workbench to Classic Workbench
Post by: danbeaver on May 05, 2015, 09:21:07 PM
Possible meaning, with commentary:

Well World, I have updated my A1200's standard Workbench to Classic Workbench

Thank you Robert17 (there  were 16 others?),

My A1200 is up and running, however my system fails to show the inserted PCMCIA card on my  WorkBench (screen); it does recognize my brother Mel's  2 MB SRAM card, which of course, it normally configured as memory and requires no drivers, although, I believe, it does require a "Prep" prior to use.

In addition to my original problems, I also need help getting MorphOS (available as a free download for evaluation purposes from: http://www.morphos.de/downloads); I have been looking but due to the lack of a Web Browser (best guess) that could be why!

Thank you, again  for your help this past Saturday,

Ian Mcbone

Well, the issue is that we have really no idea of what you are saying; with you being from the planet, "Mel's Brother," our universal translators are unable to actually determine what is being stated or asked.

No, it appears from his latest post he may be trying to get Morpos (possible in the Porpoise genus) on his A12oo not an A1200, although GOK (God Only Knows) what that is.

In a slightly politer sense, we're having a really hard time understanding what it is you're asking for.  I'm assuming English is not your first language?  But in any case, a quick google search for "download morphos" directs to this page:

http://www.morphos.de/downloads

It looks like you can get the main installer from there as well as some installation instructions.  Obviously you will need to have a compatible system (a list of which is included on that page).  Hope that helps, good luck!  :)

I wrote a post explaining the basics of getting online with your A1200.
Tho some parts of what you write are near impossible to understand.

I can't figure out what "morpos" means and since your spelling and sentence structure is as is I guessed morpos ment MorphOS. If you are not talking about MorphOS please then explain what you ment.

Did you understand what I wrote about getting the A1200 online some posts back? Else I can try to explain it again.

You are just south of Scotland, and dyslexia is an issue with reading, not with punctuation, spelling and grammar.  If you have a learning disability, simply state this.  We are here to help, but you need to clearly communicate your problems, and if you are already online, use one of the many spell checkers available.  If you need to download MorphOS, version 1.45 is for the Amiga, but the non-Amiga version is up to 3.7.  I do find it odd that you state you need a browser in an online forum, are you faxing your responses? Or have no way to transfer them from the device you are using to the A1200.  How are your ferrets by the way?

On your MorphOS machine enter Applications (on your system partition) then there is a OWB drawer, inside there is the OWB web browser.

If you need a web browser for classic (68k, OS3.1-3.9) Amiga platform, IBrowse is probably the best on available, although it hasn't been updated for several years.  You can download a time-limited trial here:

http://www.ibrowse-dev.net/download.php

You will need to have MUI installed as well as a TCP/IP stack (such as Miami, MiamiDX, Genesis, Roadshow, etc.) configured.  Most of these programs are available free online, or in time-limited demo form.  Google, man!  :D

@ALL

Wouldn't it be nice if folks could stop with the petty mud slinging and concentrate on being nice, courteous, and helpful? How does it help someone to mock them and make fun of a learning disability, ESL issue, or lack of education?

I used to really enjoy this forum. It was full of helpful and kind people. It sure seems to have turned in to an unhappy place over the last few years, what happened?

I joined Amiga.org in 2003 and sadly I am considering leaving along with my collection of Classic machines for "kinder and more helpful" forum. Does anyone here still care enough to try and make it better? What does all of the bickering have to do with Amiga computers anyway?

Communication and Reading Disorders
Listen, I was trying to help McBone by clarification of his posts. Yes, I made fun of the Morpos but gave him the download link to MorphOS. I described his issues as a learning disability, but a "signature", such as "perhaps i is dyslexia" sounds like a whimsical comment on bad spelling or proof reading.

Dyslexia, as a diagnosis, self-proclaimed or not, is not related to his communication issues; if anything his posts who be classified as a "Communication Disability" commonly associated with anoxia at birth (causing Cerebral cell atrophy), a stroke, severe brain damage from head trauma, or a genetic anomaly, among the most common. Dyslexia is purely, but not fully an issue with putting known phonetic sounds to the combination of letters on a page. The letters may be substituted or reversed, and usually confusing at first to the dyslexic reader. Compensation occurs by the late teen years with improved understanding of letter combinations.  This relates to poor understanding of the written word.

At the very least, he could have his brother change his "signature" to something that helps others understand his issues, or have someone read and correct his posts before they are put on the web.

But you should ask yourself, "How have I contributed to helping solve his problems?" Rather than state, "How have I ignored this thread until it came time to swoop in at bitch at someone?"
