Title: A3000 SCSI HDD and FastATA 4000 with CF
Post by: spudje on April 02, 2015, 04:14:16 PM
I recently bought an A3000, it's still in transit. It has a SCSI HDD. However I would like to add a FastATA 4000 to also connect a CF card (and maybe a CD/DVDrom drive.

Would this be possible?  Will everything keep working, or is it either SCSI or IDE/SATA? And can I choose to boot from CF or SCSI HDD from the Amiga bootmenu?

thx!

Yes, that should work, but it does not have room for an optical drive and the FastATA lacks an external port, so it would have to be an external SCSI CD/DVD (or have cables hanging out the case).

It should work. The driver for the FastATA automatically becomes 2nd.scsi.device because scsi.device is already taken. By this naming convention HDToolbox even recognises it without tooltype changes.

The default boot drive is selected by boot priority as always. You can give the CF card a higher prio than the SCSI drive if you want to boot from CF permanently. Certainly another boot drive can be selected for one session in the early startup menu.

Thanks both for the quick answers! Yes if I want a CD/DVD ROM my idea was to have an external IDE one with the ribbon cable coming out of the box elsewhere. But the A3000 also has a USB, so I could also use a USB cdrom instead.

Yes, you can use a USB CDROM if the USB stack supports it (Poseidon does).
