so how come in OS3.9 when I set up my SCSI Quantum Atlas 9.2gb drive with all 6 partitions keeping them under 2gb each and I save that configuration after a reboot only the first two partitions show up on the workbench?
Im using SFS as the file system

Partition size does not matter. The 4 GB limit applies to the hard drive. As it seems your controller does neither support OS 3.9's NSD nor the more common TD64.
Check if devs:nsdpatch.cfg contains an entry for your controller. Or use a file system which supports direct-SCSI, for example pfs3_aio.

Ok, so I should just instal the drive and stay below the 4gb no matter what just to be safe?
4096mb?

That's the easy soluition. But you could as well try to get >4gb support working with your controller.
If you'd share what controller it is, one could give you better advice.

Its a GVP A4008 with the 8mb of ram installed

Like I said above: edit devs:nsdpatch.cfg and remove the comment sign (#) before the line with gvpscsi.device. Then reboot and see if the additional partitions appear.
