Title: Gotek as DF1 or DF2
Post by: curtis on February 18, 2015, 05:34:20 PM
Still pondering whether to keep both an A500 and 2000, but have another question.

I picked up a couple of Gotek drives a while back and would like to know if it is possible to use a Gotek as df1: or df2: in an  A2000?

Ditto for an A500 but without the adapter being sold on ebay like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171680832497

Thanks,

Curtis

When you say "in an A2000," do you mean you want an internal DF2:?

To the best of my limited knowledge, DF2: has to be external.

Otherwise, you can set the Gotek to be any drive from DF0 to DF3.

There is a simple way to find out.
I don't see why not for DF1 internally. As long as the cable connected is the untwisted one(the twisted one goes to DF0), and the Gotek unit is jumpered to DS1 and your 2000 has the J301 jumper on. It should work fine.
Do you have an internal DF1 already?

You can use it as DF1  I have not tried DF2.  When I first got one of these I wanted it as DF1 because I still wanted DF0 as the primary bootable floppy.  However the more I used it the more It became apparent that it needed to be set for DF0.  There are some games that will not run off DF1 even if you select that as the boot drive.    So  now all of mine are set DF0,  My Floppy is the aux drive.

Good point. I also have a few HxCs that I ponder on using at some point, lol.

Dan, you're right.  Should've said DF1: as internal.

No, do not have an internal df1:.

Will have to check the J301 jumper.

Thought I'd do all the making sure I could do it before driving myself bats*** crazy trying to force it to work when it wouldn't!

I can use it as DF1, but can only program it on DF0

I have used a gotek as a DF1: internal in my A2000, it worked fine.  Just change the jumper.
