Title: ACA500 together with other side expansion slot expansions?
Post by: Motormouth on February 15, 2015, 07:54:54 PM
I ask this question in other ACA500 thread, but alas went unanswered

Has anyone tried any of the the following:

I wonder if the ACA500 can be used with other Franken-Amiga expansions like
a Slingshot Pro:

http://www.bigbookofamigahardware.co...t.aspx?id=1395
which enables a zorro II slot, on the side expansion slot, with a side expansion slot pass-through

This would allow a zorro II card in addition to the ACA 500, "in theory"
or
the 86pin Adapter
http://www.bigbookofamigahardware.co...ct.aspx?id=709
This is an 86-pin side expansion slot doubler.
In theory one could use the ACA500 with a side slot SCSI controller "like the GVP HD8+"
or an A570

My guess is the slingshot might work, but my guess is that the ACA500 and something like an A570 would interfere on the 86 pin bus.

I'd like to see someone using an ACA500, along with an A1200 PowerPC board, and something like a slingshot and Denise adapter to also run a Picasso IV.  Somebody make that happen and I'll buy them a six-pack of their favorite beer.  ;)  :pint:  :pint:

Back in the day I had an A500 with a slingshot pro with an A2065 in it and a GVP A500 HD8+ with a PC286 in it.  The A500 had a VXL 030 running at 33 Mhz.

The configuration was actually quite stable.  It looked very weird having the really big A2065 board with a 10baseT adapter hanging off the back in between the GVP wedge and the A500 wedge.

I temporary put a picasso II in place of the A2065.  It worked just fine.  Everything but the GVP was parted out into other big box amigas.

I could never get the 86 pin expansion adapter working with two devices.  I only had two at the time and GVP A500 HD8+ and a A570.  The A570 did not like the GVP controller (or anything else for that matter).   It would be very cool to get a ACA500 working with the A500 HD8+.

I was reading in another thread just recently that you can fry an A570 if you use it with anything faster than a 68010.  Glad yours survived your experimentation!  :D

I saw this other thread and seeing many comments I guess I am really lucky.   mmmmmmm, I wonder specifically what would make it fry?  I did not expect the frying effect.  An accelerator should not be causing the frequency of the A500s Zorro I slot to change.  The A570 is amazingly not standard, funny how it was made by commodore.

This comes back to my original question, can the ACA500 be used with other Zorro I or Zorro II devices?  I am consider ordering an ACA500, if I can use it with other devices.

I cannot help but wondering if it a power line issues.  Ie either the +12 V,+5 V, -5V, or the ground, get pulled down.  Accelerators can use a significant amount of power.   I had a big Pee Cee AT power supply hacked to run the A500.

The GVP's power is isolated from the A500s (although you can hack this).  This kept the GVP from overloading the A500's power supply.

I have the same curiosity although I have an ACA500 and an A1200 PowerPC board but no mood to make it happen :-/
