A guy over at EAB has prototyped a small USB board that connects to the parallel port of an A500 using AOS1.3. It talks directly to the CIA chips and does not use a USB stack! He has some timing issues to work out in software but this looks really promising.

Here's the VDIP1 board on ebay...

This would be great for creating ADFs to an external floppy drive directly from a USB stick - even better if you have an A590! Yea, I know all about the GoTeks... this is so simple and elegant though! :)

Interesting project. It will be interesting to follow as the A500 is so limited in expansion possibilities. Its parallel port is a wee bit slow.

What a great idea! I wish we had this years ago.

just unbelievable project!!! USB on my A1000 is a reality ...WoW:pint::banana::pint::banana:

Keep in mind that USB printer support has been available for years with the LPT2USB module.
-
@danbeaver: If I buy a LTP2USB to use a printer, which priters are compatble with the Amiga?
-
Virtually all HP inkjets (all that ive tried) and with FinalWriter and PageStream all printers that support PS. If you are well equipped, you can use GhostScript with other programs to print to PS printers.

USB on an OCS Amiga? Yes please!
-
This is really awesome somehow, and super-cool for sure!
Even if the transfer rate is "not fast" (slightly more than floppy disk), it would be very very useful for transfer files easily from/to small unexpanded machines like A500, A600 and so on, without spending much money.
The USB Mass Storage device is the most important thing in this scenario.
Very nice job!

ferix over at EAB has now posted the instructions and the driver for his A500 parallel to USB project! :) Check out the read.me file for component list. Thanks ferix!
