I'm trying to install SFS on a 20 gig hard drive for use in an A1200. I start winuae with a 3.1 install floppy image. Change HDtoolbox to uaehf.device and save. doubleclick on HDtoolbox, change drive type , define new, change the name to ram:junk click read configuration; information changes as expected, click on continue, OK,OK, save changes to drive.
It errors out saying that I still have PC partitions or don't have administer privaleges
I ran UAE as administrator and I have cleaned the drive beforehand so what is the problem?
Any ideas.

After cleaning the card, pull it out and plug it in again.
For some cards it helps if you create a PC partition and delete it again so that the card has no partitions but a PC partition table.
Disable the anti-virus software, it might protect the boot block.

How did you clean the drive? Did you use "diskpart"?

How did you clean the drive? Did you use "diskpart"?
Yes, "diskpart". You'll have to use it if Windows complains it's still being used.
list disk
select disk number
clean

Yes I used diskpart to clean the drive. It reported that it successfully cleaned the drive.
I am using a usb cable to set things up so removing it after cleaning might do the trick. I didn't even think about the antivirus protection though.
I will give it a try after I get off work later.
Thanks everyone.

I got past the windows problems by connecting the hard drive up to my 1200.
So now its got its RDB set up.
So how do I create partitions bigger than 4 gig with hdtoolbox. Some updated scsi.device or something.

Watch this video, it will explain it all.

Thomas offers lots of information about 4GB barrier and filesystem limitations.
Worth reading.

I found that video before when I was looking for help but when he said he was using wb3.9 I always stopped. I finally watched
the complete video and it does help after about 12 minutes so I should be able to get things going with my 20 gig drive
What is better from a memory standpoint. SFS or PFS3. I ask because I have limited memory at the moment (A1200 using a 2Mb SRAM card)

I'm using SFS. Others prefer PFS.
It's more a question of personal preference as both do fine. I've used PFS before it became available for free.
Did not make a big difference.
From my experience, stick a note to the drive or somewhere in sight what filesystem is installed in what flavor.
Once i had problems to recover rdb. I had forgotten which fs was installed.
Needless to say i f*cked up entire partition table and disk on my attempts.
