Title: set up 60GB IDE HD in 1200T issues
Post by: klx300r on December 29, 2014, 06:01:25 PM
hi guys, trying to get around the 'NOT A DOS DISK' error when trying to setup a known working 60 GB 3.5" IDE HD in my 1200T.

I've got a FastATA MK2 board, 3.1 roms, running OS3.9.  Dealt with this issue once before years ago but I'm stumped now. Tried booting from OS3.9 floppy with ATA driver for the FastATA but still no go.

Are you setting this up as the only drive in the system, or adding it as a second drive (since you mention it's already running 3.9)?

The main intention is to set it up as a slave but I already tried setting it up as my main DHO and system won't boot further than the 'NOT DOS DISK'

You get "NOT A DOS DISK" when you boot off the 3.9 floppy and run HDToolbox on it?  Just curious, sorry I'm not familiar with the FastATA stuff.  :(

The SCSI.device of the FastATA does not see partitions made with OS3.9 if it is using its own updated SCSI.device.   The FastATA command can be left out of the Startup-Sequence and it should work with about the same speed of 9 to 10 MB/s.  Or you can do all the setup and installs using the command, but I had major issues mixing the two on a 40 GB drive and the most recent FastATA ROM and software.

ah yes I forgot that the older FastATA boards actually had to break up larger drives into 4GB partitions but anyhow I easily solved that problem in the past with running ATA3.prefs but in this case this specific hard drive wouldn't even let me boot up into WB??

anyhow problem solved since I dug up an older 4GB 3.5" ATA HD to be used as my slave drive in my 1200T and my system picked it up and formatted it nicely right away:) looking forward to tidying up everything in my tower and cleaning uop my man cave for some multi system demo watching tomorrow!
