Going to order the Pegasos version from Vesalia as they have it in stock and pass on the copy from Amigakit to someone else when it finally turns up.

How does it work under WinUAE? Any drawbacks or bugs found? Speed? Network?

At first things were kind of slow and laggy, then I stumbled across on another forum by Toni who was suggesting to use the SCSI accelerator option and wow what a difference, boots almost like a real machine.

Becomes are very useable machine, might sell the Peg2 after all :-)

Fast = Yes
Network = Yes

So ignore all the how tos/guides that suggest using IDE as this is really really slow and painful, follow them but choose SCSI accelerator instead of IDE.

Didn't order classic through Amigakit but through Vesalia.

Thanks for the tip. BTW. is there any 3D gfx card supported in WinUAE to get 3D games or compositing engine to work?

Amigakit were very quick in their dispatch. I had my copy within 36 hours of them getting stock. You need to look at Hyperion to see where Amigakit hit delays.

Yep. Was dispatched within 8 hours of me placing the order through Vesalia. They did have stock a few days before Amigakit though.

Would depend on where Hyperion are based or shipping from as to when it arrives at the dealer. So I would assume Acube and Vesalia to be right next door to them as they had stock almost straight away.

I think I know what the problem is, it's the British customs. I've had some sound equipment repaired by a specialist in the UK and customs retained it for more than a month!! :( Mind you, I'm in Portugal so they started doing this even for packages from within the EU... Even more amazing, when the item was returned they retained it for more than a month again. And you never know what X-Ray scanning or whatever they're gonna use, if you have media that can get screwed by that you're on your own..
This wasn't the only experience like this I've had with them so not buying from UK again, sorry, nothing personal (quite the other way actually, quite like the British...) but they've screwed it for me.. Search around google and you'll find thousands of stories like this, apparently it was because of terrorism or something, but maybe also to control illegal trading.

So if you want it fast, just order within the EU and outside the UK.

Happy new year to all by the way....;)

Jose

Last post for now. Can't really see any vast improvement over 4.1 so far, and not seeing any new artwork other than the boot screen.
Nice little service pack.

My A1XE version arrived on Hogmanay so, other than the faff of installing it, I haven't played with it much yet.

Amistore... well thought I'd give it ago, downloaded it and ran it. Every second time you run it, it works great.

Went to purchase/download an item and it asked for a logon, nowhere in the app does it have a create account option. After some googling found out you have to make a Amisphere account. This isn't mentioned anywhere on the amistore site.

Created the account and downloaded MACE, doesn't run under WinUAE and freezes the session.

So tried buying CANDI and got the error that the files were not found on the server.

Afew other screen shots attached...

Finally candi is up and running, but even with the slow CPU it's a resource hog under WinUAE.

Need more speed, have an i7 running in the background sitting there idle with many a core to use. There must be away of tapping into that and you need more than the 128MB of RAM that appears to be the limit.

Can anybody speak (type) as to any new features of the Classic or X1000 versions?  Such as the extended RAM access above the 2 GB limit in the X1000, or ability to R/W access to the MB's CF card?

So after spending the day trying to setup all the games again I forgot how painful it is.
Instead of releasing the game with all the required files they make you visit several forums and dead end links trying to download libs.
Will fire up the Peg and see if I can copy it from there instead, should't be this hard.
If a game or application needs a lib or a software req then include it in the download!

The amount of broken or old read mes on os4 depot is terrible, even aminet is a shocker.

Anyway features are listed on Hyperions site.

There are some specific new features on Classic:

-Experimental GREX PCI busboard support (Voodoo3 and RTL8029) only.
-Radeon 9250 now works on Firestorm/Prometheus
-changes to mediator config to allow some additional PCI/Zorro card setups (reduces memory footprint/address space allocation)

Read the Classic FAQ in the root of the CD, it explains everything.

I had that exact setup at one point a very long time ago :)

How would it AmigaOS 4.1 FE Classic run under WinUAE on a 4.4ghz 4670K or a machine with more cores like an 8320FX 4.0ghz?

Anyway, just wondering how fast it is under emulation.... like how would it compare to BlizzPPC?

thanks!

Boots quickly using SCSI accelerator instead of IDE. Pretty responsive workbench/desktop and internet browsing.

When it comes to running some games like MACE, WinUAE will lock up.

If you use CANDI it becomes very sluggish.

WHDLoad works really well, and so do most 060 demos, yet to test Quake PPC etc but will give that a go too :-)

Don't forget that MACE requires compositing enabled, and if you're using WinUAE it doesn't do that (no Radeon emulation).

@spirantho - Completely forgot about that :-)

Acutally most of the games appear to lock that I've tried.
