Title: MUI 4.0 running on an Amiga 1200
Post by: walkero on December 09, 2014, 09:07:53 AM
I created a small video showing the latest MUI 4.0 running on a Amiga 1200 equipped with an 030/50 Mhz, 96MB RAM, Indivision AGA MKII. The feeling of the speed of it is really good, compared with the latest MUI 3.9R3. The installation procedure is the same with the older versions and it is really stable.

The speed of the video is in realtime with no fast forward, to see exactly how much time it needs to load and the refresh speed of the windows.

The music is from Tom Woxom - Kickstart album found at http://is.gd/t22b5n

Are you using essential programs like peterk's icon.library and fblit, ftext ?  By the way. MUI4 colours are all messed up for me.

The screen has only 32 colors, thats why the colors of MUI looks like that.
I do use fblit, and latest icon.library.

I asked because your chipmem seems very low.

Do you also have WBCtrl IMT=ICONFAST MNL=107 just before loadwb ? Also don't forget to choose the option othermem inside Workbench prefs.  But I guess it's the 1024 678 resolutions that's eating away chipmem. If I were you, I would use a 800x600 resolution since that's much faster and eats less chipmem.

MUI4 colours are wrong on my 16bit Cybergraphx4 screen. Some text is invisible. MUI 3.9 did not have this problem.

@Ancalimon
Thanks for your recommendations. The mosts gfx memory is eaten by the resolution. I will try to reduce it a little bit and follow your tips.

How do you feel MUI 4 on your system? I admit that I believed that it would be much slower than it is.

Thanks again

MUI4 is just as fast as MUI 3.8 on my 060-66 CVisionPPC screen except to color selection part which is vastly improved (there are all kinds of options, gradients, etc). But like I said colors are all wrong and I don't know what is causing this. I will try with VisualPrefs, FullPalette and title shadow disabled.

Neat stuff!  Not how I would set it up personally, but thanks for posting the video.  Dig the music! :)
