Title: 3000T or 4000T Which do you prefer?
Post by: ElPolloDiabl on December 08, 2014, 12:14:04 PM
I'm a bit curious why so many like the A4000T. I don't like them myself because they just came as empty cases with an 040 and hard drive in them.

The A3000T came with scsi, new scandoubler, new (at the time) 030. They were cheaper too, about $3000.

Odd, my A4000T's came with motherboards, SCSI, IDE, AT power supplies, 2 with HD floppies (1 with SD floppy), an 040 board and a hard drive and cost me $1195 USD; I live in the states and 2 of the 3 came directly from Software Hut.

I had a TUX in college.  It was an amazing machine.  The fact that you could dual boot into Unix just blew everybody's mind (well the geeks anyway).  :-)

Sold it and bought an Amiga 4000 when they came out.

Good times...

There weren't many stores left here in the Escom period. Bare 4000T was $3995 (about $3000 US) till about 1999. The A1200 prices were more competitive.

Plus if the A3000 was AU$3000 would have been $2000 US

I bought my A4000T from Software Hut in USA for about $3000. 68040 CSMK2 but I forget how much memory, maybe 32MB at the time. I think about 1996 or 97. SCSI is of course part of the A4000T, so I did not get the SCSI kit for CSMK2. I did not get an HD in my order though, as I was moving up from A2000 and brought that drive over. Also brought Picasso4, and I forget what else from my A2000T, so I really only wanted the minimal A4000T I could buy.

It would have been nice to have had an Amber on board though, for those that did not have or also get PicassoIV or other flickerfixer.

The 3000T's more "beautiful", the 4000T's more "functional". Both subjective opinions, of course. ;)

Any idea the production numbers on 3000T's? I see a lot more 4000T's pop up for sale than the former?

Had a 3000T way back but immediately ungraded to a 4000D simply because of the AGA
4000Ts were nice but oh so pricy.
The one feature I loved about the 3000T was the built in flicker fixer and the looks.

A3000T is heavier than the A4000T.    :)

Loved the 3000D i had just becouse of the SCSI and scandoubler.

Just hade to get the 3000T to get even more room to expand in.
So my vote goes for the 3000T :)
