Title: can't open the system/dev/monitor drawer
Post by: apsturk on December 07, 2014, 07:22:17 AM
Never had this happen before. I have a clean install of 3.1 and a MK2cr. I am instaling the drivers from aminet as I have done before. It will not open and the screen flashes and it says that the drawer can't be opened?

How are you opening the drawer? If it can not be opened, it probably means the drawer does not exist.

The path should be SYS: Devs/Monitors or DEVS:Monitors  A clean install of OS3.1 should create that drawer.

And if the drawer really exists, maybe the .info is broken. Try to  replace the info with the one from another folder.

The problem is probably that only the .info-file exists, and no directory.
Verify this in shell with "cd devs:monitors/"

Or:
Code: [Select]

cd Devs:
dir

Check if the Monitors directory really exists.

corrupt file caused by incorrect maxtransfer settings when you installed?

Create a new drawer in Devs from within Workbench and rename it to "Monitors".

This won't write over anything if the drawer already exists. To be honest it sounds to me like you've moved the Monitors drawer somewhere else, probably with a directory utility...but it's left the icon where it was (Monitors.info) which it would do unless the drawer and its associated .icon file were moved together. Have a good look around for it, I'm sure it'll be there somewhere. Unless of course you've deleted the Monitors drawer instead...leaving its icon intact. In which case just copy it over manually from the Storage Disk of your Workbench floppy set.

If you do decide to copy it over from the Storage disk, you'll have to delete the old .info file first. This is just a matter of deleting the "Monitors" drawer that isn't opening and then dragging the new one across from the floppy disk.

I had the same thing happen to me so I did a google search and it brought me here :)

As the others said the ICON was there but the actual folder(drawer) was not.
I could not create one as I got the error "already exists" but i just deleted the icon file (.nfo) and recreated a new drawer and BOOM it worked.

I then copied whatever monitors i wanted in there rebooted and it was fine.

I checked the WBdisk floppy i installed from and this had the same problem so i suspect you and i have the same bad copy image for the wbench31.adf file.

I have since re-imaged a copy from my original. I am sure you probably figured it out by now since your post but I thought I'd share in case someone else had the issue as I also did.
