I have an A1200 with new stuff from amikakit. 1233 cf hard drive and some other cool stuff. My question is I have the aos3.9 cd. Do I need a cd drive to install it on my cf card, Is there another way I can do this? Also I want to use SFS not FFS I dont know how to do this. Side note I do have a scsi cd reader I used many years ago on an old mac is there a way I can use this?
Thanks for the help. Just getting into Amiga after many years of wanting one

It's a good idea to connect the cfcard to your PC and install OS3.9 and boingbag updates that way since you probably will have problems using a cdrom together with cf card.
Using SFS is as simple as choosing SFS as the filesystem and entering the required identifier inside HDToolBox.

There are essential things you have to keep in mind like max transfer rate and keeping your first boot partition inside the 4gb limit. (from my experience it's best to have a partition at the beginning of your drive that is not larger than 2gb)

I am guessing you mean amiga forever on the PC

WinUAE alone would do. Of course you will need a working AmigaOS environment before doing anything. Since you have OS3.9 CD at hand I would recommend Amikit. Wait a few days and the latest version will be made available for download.

Hi and welcome my friend ,I see you have bought a bit of stuff from Amigakit ,so you cant go far wrong there ,have you not thought of buying the Workbench 3.1 Floppy Disk Set (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1211) from Amigakit as long as you have a floppy drive installed in your Amiga your good to go and the Workbench 3.1 Floppy Disk Set (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1211) is cheap as chips ,best wishes Brian. ps at least by installing the 3.1 workbench floppies on to your cf card you would have a working operating system and it is much easier to progress from there to add other gadgets and also play games ,just my thoughts

To use the scsi device, you would need an accelerator with scsi controller. If you don't want to use WinUAE, you can connect a regular IDE CD device as slave together with a master harddrive if the cdrom does not work as slave with the cfcard.
Then you need to install AmigaOS 3.1 from the floppies. You can find a CD0 file inside your Storage/Dosdrivers drawer. Since CDROM is going to be slave, it means CD0 files unit number needs to 1.
After that you can create emergency boot floppy from the OS3.9 cd and install OS3.9 "best on an empty partition" after booting from the floppy. Then you install the boingbag1 and boingbag2 since they also need the cd in the drive.
After that you can remove the cd drive, connect your cfcard and transfer the os3.9 installation there.

Ok, so I'm trying to install OS3.9 from CD on a new CF card from AmigaKit and I get the install program that AmigaKit pre installs on the CF card but I can't seem to get it to recognize the CD drive when I use the CD drive mound program included.
I'm selecting Volume CD0 and SCSI.device and unit 1 as it's the slave device.
I know for a fact it works as I can access it if I go back to the old hard drive.
What am I doing wrong?

scsi.device needs to be version 43 or above, otherwise it won't recognise CD drives.
You can use IDEfix on OS 3.1 to read the CD drive, then create an emergency boot disk without IDEfix, so that you don't need it on OS 3.9.
-
But I'm using the emergency boot disc supplied by AmigaKit. It says sys:C/idle fix not found.
Given this is the new soft where should it not be there?
If I copy the IDEfix to the proper folder it says launching interface software and freezes
Edit, after a reboot and trying again it works but get the error OS instal is full?

It's trying to install into the boot disk in novice mode. You must choose advanced mode or whatever it was called to be able to install to another destination.

There is no option to change any user modes.

Not my screenshot I just stole it off Google real quick, but do you get this screen? I think that's what he's asking:
