Has or does anyone use Video Toaster for the Amiga 4000. Read that the system was made with this in mind.

Yup, I have one running in a towered A4000D and it still works perfectly. Its a bit outdated now as it wont do HD video.

Awesome. What's the 4000 like for playing games, were there any ones that took advantage of the physical upgrades that you could install that made it more powerful than the 1200?

Sadly most games were written for the least common denominator and this is why they are mostly crippled to run on the 1200 with minimal specs. We could of had many cd games that required 16MB ram and 040,cdrom etc but alas..
The 4000 makes a pretty good game machine. You can build a pal/ntsc switch(you will likely run pal for everything since most games are PAL.
Register and install whdload, it makes it a pleasure to play many games!

The 4000 and the 1200 were the same for game playability both have the AGA graphics but the advantage to the 4000 was more space inside the case for expansion. Sadly any of the accelerators made for the 4000 are VERY pricy to buy used.

That is my point, the 4000 already has a 040 stock in most cases.
you only need to change it if you want to go faster and have 128MB ram/fast scsi etc.
the advantage of the 4000 was the ide was buffered,it has a better power supply, comes with 040(some were 030 models),and has zorro3.

Uh, they were pretty "pricey" when new! My CSPPC 233/50 with no RAM was $1195 in 1997 (Software Hut).

More than I paid for my fully loaded 4KT at around that time. Ouch.

Every game that required per se an 68030 or more was better on the A4000 than on an unexpanded A1200. But also the A1200 can be expanded to a nearly similar level.

Yep, and it all held together by the Grace of God, rubber bands, hot glue and tape. Nothing screws together on an expanded A1200
