Title: The Amiga Thin Client Project- Dedicated WinUAE Box
Post by: c64man on October 03, 2014, 02:56:19 AM
As many of you know,  I build and produce the Amiga Mini, a dedicated UAE Box based on an HP T5735 Thin client.

I have taken the following steps to ensure the Amiga Thin client project is legal and will go on.  As I have quite a big following for these units.

Each system purchased will now include an AmigaForever License and the amiga forever ISO will be included on a flash drive.
It will no longer sport the Amiga Logo and will just be called UAEMini

The XPe OS for the thin clients is legal which is freely available for download from HP's website

It will no longer come preloaded with any games.

The system will still boot into Workbench 3.1 or your choice of Workbench when you preorder.

I just wanted to say that I'm very impressed with your dedication to your project c64man.

It's encouraging to have people like you, actually releasing new product into the Amiga community.

Despite what I've seen posted here, I think there is a market for the thin clients you're prepping and selling.  Yes, I can build one cheaper, and some would say that's where the fun lies.  But for a time poor, nostalgic enthusiast, your offering is perfect.

I hope you sell a bunch.  Good luck and keep up the good work :)

I am impressed but I just don't grow money on trees.

I might be interested in one in next month. Just on another note how would one go about getting games for it the legal way.

There are few sites that got full permission for the games they host.  I think there's link on the Amiga Forever site.  Dream 17 has all of Team17's releases for Amiga.

There used to be a guide on the internet somewhere that showed you how to take a micro XP distro and configure it to boot straight into WinUAE. Anyone know where that is at? I lost my back up.

Were there any screenshots of the sytems? How much customising have you done?
Is it set up for internet access?

Anyone who uses UAE must know how to get games by now.

I want to congratulate you too.  It's so easy to just throw illegal software on a box and put it up for sale, but taking the time and money to do it right is pretty awesome.

When it was first posted, I expected you to sell a few and bail out, but I'm glad to see you're actually trying to make a real product out of it.

Great to see that you did not give up, you should also concider offering a faster version by putting in the 1.8 or 2GHz CPU as in your last thread I explained how to do, the CPU's are easy to find for less then 10 bucks :)

He is charging for the work to set it up. It seems reasonable to me.
