Title: hard to fix floppy drive ?
Post by: rednova on September 28, 2014, 08:50:17 PM
Dear Friends:

I have an amiga 2000, most everything works fine with one exception:
The internal floppy disk drive, the first time you insert a disk it will not work,
but if I try again a few more times (like 2-5) then it reads the disk.
Is this hard to fix ?
Thank you !!!

Have you tried cleaning it?

Yes, try cleaning it with a disk cleaner floppy (they still sell these online) and a few drops of isopropyl alcohol; failing that Aminet.net has a disk alignment program that includes instructions that works well -- I've used it several times.

Good news is that if it reads occasionally, then you can probably fix it!

I just fixed one of my drives...
It needed cleaning (both with head cleaning and blowing out the dust)

But the real fix was replacing the springs that pull the disk in place!

Watch for that.

It could be as simple as dirty floppy detect switches.
