Hi everyone.
I just got my Fastata 4000 and inserted it into my miggy tonight. It only resulted in a blinking powerled and nothing else.
I tried the 3 different available zorro slots, but to no avail.
I then tried to move the HD from the onboard IDE to the Fastata in case they don't operate together, but no. Only powerled blinking.
Anything to do with the mediator jumper settings?
My setup is mediator with Radeon 9200, sb128,Rtl8139, spider, cyberstorm 060

You already tried it without anything connected to it?
Just to make sure the culprit isn't psu, you could try to temporarily remove as many other cards as possible.
Which mediator do you have (is it 4000D like here with FastATA: http://www.elbox.com/ma/m_4000_folder/mediator_pci_4000_qig-f8.html)?

Hi and thanks for the reply.
I have tried it with nothing connected to the Fastata (does not help) I tried to remove spider, nic, soundcard, did not help. Tried to remove the window jumper on the mediator and it allowed me to boot from my emergency disk, but graphics were just random colored pixels.
I got the mediator PCI 4000 Rev 1.0.
The system have worked flawlessly with daily use with everything but the Fastata for months. And with the radeon for a week.
Buster 11
2mb chip on most, 128 on the cyberstorm. Not overclocked

After getting my A4000T back in working condition after 10 years, I have started trying my old cards and newly bought cards. It turnes out that the order of the cards is very important especially when mixing Zorro3 cards with Zorro2 cards.
Starting from the bottom Zorro slot, this is the only configuration among others I tried which works:
1- Toccata (Zorro2)
2- VLab Motion (Zorro2)
3- XSurf100 (Zorro3)
4- ZorRam256(Zorro3)
If I move VLab Motion to 5th slot above ZorRam256, neither ZorRam nor VLab Motion are detected.
If I switch places of VLab Motion and ZorRam256, I get a defective card message.
I also got different results ranging from guru loops to none of the cards detected.
So try separating your Zorro3 cards from Zorro2 cards.

The above responses assume you have an issue with the auto-configuration memory space with the FasrATA 4000 and the Mediator in place; that should not be a problem and would be easy to tell by just removing the Mediator bridge-board. I would think the FastATA card has issues. Try pressing in the socketed chips and making sure the card contacts are clean; if it still doesn't work then open a repair ticket with the seller or Elbox.
I've used a FastATA 4000 with Mediator before and only had problems with the older ROM blocking OS4.1 from booting.

I got 4 pci slots. From bottom I got sb128, Rtl8139, spider, radeon. I also got 3 zorro slots, I only got one item in those, the Fastata. I tried it in all slots, same results.
Right now i have removed the winsize Jun er an are able to boot into 3.1,but no matter what I do, I can't get the machine to recognize the normal SATA harddrive I use. Trying fresh reinstall atm.
Edit: pressing the socket chips, repeating my cpu card and checking all cables, connections was the first thing I tried, but thanks Dan. ☺

In a private message from Elbox I received in the past, the pci slot order doesn't matter, but the way the Amiga handles auto-config address space, the Zorro card order does.

Ok, just asking.
If i am to reinstall EVERYTHING, should I install os3.9,then bb1-4then picaso96,then mediator files or what order would you guys install it in? And would you skip bb3 and 4 or not?
Also, why can't I reach my old HD, and if I boot from my old, varying HD or emergency disk, why do my graphics get messed up and amiga locks up.
Edit: also, SHOULD I able to connect my old system er vi as Fastata master and boot from it?
Also, what's the proper jumper settings on the mediator for my setup? With master and winsize closed and swap config open, I don't even get to early boot menu before powerled start flashing...
-
1) All mediator jumpers closed for a 4T with Radeon.
2) The Picasso install can be done any time once the Mediator Installer is there.
3) I'm guessing the graphics go to hell due to out of date Setpatch or drivers.
4) The Mediator files can go in anywhere before configuring the P96.
5) I usually do: OS3.1, IDEFix97, reboot, OS3.9, Mediator, P96, then BB 1, 2 - reboot -- BB3, and most recent 4, reboot.
6) If your FastATA card is working you can install to it or use the T's IDE then move the drive. It shouldn't matter where.

I opened the swap config jumper and everything worked. I am using latest Setpatch with graphics.library patch, newest intuition.library, exec.library and custom rom made with Remus. Everything have worked nicely until the Fastata got inserted, but now I have to open the swap config jumper to make it work. I managed to copy my system to a compactflash so i am happy. Is it normal to have to actually USE the miggy in this state though?
-
The SWAP jumper merely reverses the auto-config order or the addresses in case they "fit" into the Z3 address space better; normally there is no issue with the Mediator and one other card, but arises with several cards trying to grab the same 1 Gb space. Note that the FastATA 4000 will not reach past 10 MB/s regardless of the pio mode. If you have a "need for speed" you will have to fly an F-14, or use an UWSCSI controller. Although if you go the F-14 route get th TF-30-P-414A engines. We already lost Goose

Ok, just asking.
And would you skip bb3 and 4 or not?
Why? All that they contain are bug fixed versions of things released after boingbag2.

After getting it up and running yesterday and enjoying my amiga for 6 hours, copying my system partition to both a compactflash card and a Samsung 830 120GB ssd disk, my Amiga decided to not boot anymore. Not from the ssd, not from the cf and not from the original, untouched harddrive either.
After tons of googling, I found a post where someone said "you can forget using your ssd as primary master and bootdisk"
I guess it needs either a master or a slave as company?
None of the adapters that came with the Fastata actually reacted to the master/slave jumper. The pata-sata one didn't work at all. 😕
I'm still happy though. ☺
-
I'm not sure of the context of the "forget" post, but all of the above should work; delve deeper into the boot issue by isolating the components and try to find what is at fault.
-
After reinstalled half-way today, the cf and the ssd reappeared. So I took a backup of the clean installed on, and just copied the contents of the cf to a 2,5" 320GB Seagate disk.
Everything works now.
Thanks to everyone that have helped. None mentioned, none forgotten. ☺
