So i got unlucky and got my 3.1 ROMs in from ebay, however the seller packed them in staticy styrofoam and shipped them that way, and one leg was broken off. So im screwed on that front. and there are no more 3k 3.1 roms on ebay.
Is there any way to softkick the 3k into 3.1 so I can install classicwb

Get a 3.1 Amiga 3000 KS image and then use MakeSuperDisk on Aminet to make the special file. You should be able to copy that to the HD in the special folder that 1.4 looks for with the special name and boot into KS 3.1
http://aminet.net/package.php?package=util/misc/MakeSuperDisk.lha
Have fun!

Probably pointing out the obvious, but you can buy new Kickstart ROM's still from AmigaKit:

IMHO there's no reason in this day & age to not have "the latest & greatest", especially when they're so cheap. Of course I know some people on this board who'd prefer to run older ROM's for aesthetic reasons, but soft-kicking... why waste the memory?

I know what you mean. I picked up my A3000 from eBay and it used the softkick method off the hard drive to load Kickstart. It didn't take me long to order 3.1 ROMs and install them. :)

I was pretty happy with softkicking until I wanted to put an '040 in my 3000...

They will be able to supply them until the world runs out of blank eproms.
I'd rather have mask roms, but those are probably quite rare. I think villagetronic were the only source of them.
Legs broken off chips isn't the end of the world. I know someone with a CDTV that they used to pull one of the chips out because it made it more compatible with A500 games. When one of the legs gave up I got hold of a socket, inserted the chip and soldered a wire from the broken leg to the socket (it might have been a paper clip instead of wire). If there isn't enough to solder to then a knife or dremmel should be fine to expose more.
If the one you bought off ebay is an eprom then I wouldn't bother saving it though.
