Title: Amiga 1200 8MB SRAM pcmcia format problem
Post by: ruffNEC on August 16, 2014, 09:11:20 AM
hi there,

I have a problem formating an 8mb SRAM Card (MELCARD MITSUBISHI 8MB SRAM CARD MF38M1-9VDAG01)with the tool Prepcard

when I try to format it as system ram i get an error that the card is write protected which she isn't in fact!

well I heard it can only USE 4mb but it should work too ?!

does it matter if no battery is inserted?! what type is used CR 2325 ?!

might the card be dead ?!

You can only use 4mb as Fast RAM, and don't need to format anything.
Your card is 8mb, but that doesn't matter. The system will use only 4mb.
If you want to use the card as storage disk, then you'll need a battery to
save the data. It's usually a 2032 coin cell battery.

Been a while since I messed around with SRAM cards, but if I was you I'd put a new battery in it, and make sure the card isn't write protected (should be a switch on it somewhere). Then prepare it as ram. If that doesn't work, prepare it as disk then reboot and then prepare it as ram and reboot.

I have exactly the same card, and I have the same problem on A600 kick 2.04

I've tried with a battery CR2025 instead of CR2032 because the latter one is too thick, but still I get a 'battery fail' message.

Any update?
