Title: Help! HD confusion
Post by: McNorris on February 15, 2004, 12:03:07 AM
So I finally got my A600 up w/ a 10GB HD (overkill? I know, but my only other option is an 800 MB)

My Amiga recognizes it.

I useing Workbench 2.05 and the HDtool will partitionit it into 2 four GB partitions. However, it will not format it, throught HDtools or the Workbench.

Can anyone advise? (in a step 1,2,etc... if possible)

TIA

The scsi.device from kickstart 2.05 (V37.300) won't access the drive above the 4GB barrier. Sorry for you. AND its even worse. You can't make a pattiton bigger than 2GB.

Failing to do so will result in overwriting of the begining of the drive -> destroying the rdb etc.

I suggest, that you make a 500MB Parttiton for system, a 2GB
for apps etc. and a 1.4GB for gamming and temp stuff.

Installing a turboboard, installing Kickrom 3.1 and using OS3.5 or 3.9 will cure the 4GB barrier. But the boot-parttion still has to be below the 2 GB limit.

Cool, thanks.

The HDTools program  recognizes the drive as two 4 GB drives. It's kind of strange. I just dumb clicks through the OKs, etc... I guess I need to sit down with it and your given guide lines and see what happens.

Sorry for all the typos, but is 1.37 am here in Switzerland. I think I have to take a handful of sleep.
