HI all is there a cheap solution to get USB working with the mediator boards?
-
You can try to find a modified NEC USB card where the manufacturer code is changed to the one ELBOX picked, find a card supported by the openPCI library and then find the documentation on how to set it up, or pay $90 USD plus $40 shipping for a Spider II.
-
I'd get a Spider II from a Elbox now that their in stock. Supporting current Amiga manufacturers can only be a good thing for Future developments & support.
Look at it this way it's still 2 x cheaper than a used Subway USB !
-
Are they in stock? I don't see them on the AmigaKit website. I have a real Spider II and a hacked USB card and they both work well (lots of USB ports on my machine). If you do track down a hacked card then you also have to find the older drivers for it, because the new Mediator drivers won't work.
-
Bought one a few weeks ago straight off Elbox's homepage with no problems.
-
Oops, my bad! I misdefined "cheap" as being inexpensive.

nah it's pretty clear what's being 'defined' here unfortunately.

Just post a wanted ad on Amibay for a flashed USB card for a Mediator. Usually go for $20-$40 USD :-)
I purchased a card a while back, this is the original purchase thread. from memory it's an open pci library supported card that I bought.

This isn't true, the hacked cards DO work with newest spider.device.

I have also tried my HP wireless mouse and it works perfectly, i am able to use my 2 gb flash drive as my TDK is 8 gb which im guessing that is why it doesnt pop up on my workbench screen, i have to say USB cards on the amiga are fantastic thanks to everyone who helped and an even bigger thank you to Lurch for giving me the card i really appreciate it mate :)

I have two 8GB USB flash sticks. One works fantastically, it's a really cheap sandisk or something (can't recall, one of those black ones with the white button/switch to make it come out.) And the other one... it's a USB 3.0 one, that is based around NAND flash. Really nice, but the Amiga doesn't want to read it for some reason.
But I do know that an 8GB one should work.

Re-formatted it to fat32 and it now works a treat :)

i have plugged in a trident USB joypad and it is recognised but how do i use it to play games?
-

No problem, just glad to help a fellow Amigian out :-) USB is great, only downside is WHDLoad doesn't like it so you have to disable the USB stack before starting WHDLoad.
Which is pretty easy to do now that WHDLoad has the line for the posiden stack. Just need to edit Whdload.prefs and enable te startup/cleanup files and then enable the posiden lines in those :-)
Anyway enjoy :-)
-
The gamepad will be an issue. Non-WHDload games will be a problem as well as they "bang the hardware," or were written for the mouse port. Newer games might work, but dont hold your breath.

Hmmmm - I should have an old Spider II USB2.0 from Elbox lying around somewhere...
