Title: UK A1 Pricing
Post by: Boudicca on February 14, 2004, 11:01:33 PM
Eyetech has rejigged its website and forcing protential buyers of A1 systems through their Dealer Network. http://www.amiga-centre.co.uk is the only official UK dealer but I was more shocked at their prices.

With a Dollars to Pounds pricing a basic system costs nearly £1500 pounds or 2800 Dollars or 2200 Euros and there's not even a monitor included.

What a Rip Off !

I written to Eyetech to complain and I ask all UK members to email and complain aswell.

If the A1 is to succeed in the UK we cannot be priced out of the market by ebay thinking sellers who absolutely no respect for the intelligence of customer in this albeit limited market. If the A1 is ever to be a success it be priced fairly and sensibly.

I dont see what eyetech have to do with it... I doubt very much they have a say in what their customers (read distribution channels) charge end customers for the motherboards...

You might say "they sell them, they have the clout to make a change".... while they might I doubt they will... the more they can ship to different distributers the better for them so they arent going to complain to their distributers I dont think.

If you are really upset over stellars pricing you should contact them and not eyetech.

The prices of the AmigaONE are too high all round. They're *ridiculously* high, and don't buy the excuses that Mac prices are so high. It's a different ballpark. They are in serious need of some lowering if the Amiga community is ever going to grow again instead of shrink.

But flood-mailing Eyetech with complaints isn't going to do that. You'll just push out mails from buyers of Eyetech stuff and they won't be replying any of them. That's not going to put prices down.

There are too many middlemen and licencees in this A1 production. Eliminate them, and you can compete again. Otherwise, it makes Amiga an expensive geek system for a few hundred people destined for an early death.

That's true!!! The hardware is getting old (it's been a year or so that the first mobos shiped to their respective owners?) And what has to offer?

The CPU slot can take advantage of a newer/faster CPU (if there's gonna be a CPU expansion)? The RAM would it be a bottleneck? What about the latest GFX cards?
The situation would be the same: Have a mediocre system (if not outdated) and be happy with it (because you cannot do anything else: pretty much the same with the classic Amiga line).

The point is that
-the prices won't drop for the old hardware,
-there is no new h/w to justify the high prices...
(just watch the PC market and compare: that's how to do business, sell & buy stuff)
