Title: Zorro2 scsi controller+8 Mb Ram on standard A500 ??
Post by: Effy on February 13, 2004, 10:24:38 PM
The expansion slot of a standard A500 is in fact an upside down Zorro slot, correct ??? So does that mean I can acutually connect for example a SCSI-Controller Zorro2+ 2,1 Giga HD+2 MB RAM
Oktagon 2008 BSC(Alfadata)+HD" IBM"mit OS 3.9 like on this german object on Ebay  (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2786666773&category=8142) and have the A500 expanded ???

Well technically you can, the signals are the same, but physically the connectors are different. If you can find an adapter (not likely) or build one then you will be able to use zorro II cards with your Amiga 500, something I'm planning to do actually....

Sounds interesting !! An A500 with a normal Zorro gfx card would run a bit faster than normal, even if it only uses 1 Mb of the gfx card ... unless it´s an A500+ or am I wrong ???
And why isn´t there an processorslot for the A500 like on the A2000 ??? Haven´t got a clue ...

Well, for that matter, what about the expansion slot on an A1000? I have a 2mb sidecar with two empty slots inside that I believe are Zorro slots?

would A2000 card work in this I wonder?

Back in the old days there were adapters seeling for the A500 that would do that. There were even various types that included a case to house some zorro cards...(don't remember names...)
Try putting an add on Amibench for one and you might get lucky...be persistent...

The Expansion Systems DataFlyer 500 SCSI (and SCSI/IDE) controllers were actually Zorro II cards on an adapter.  So, if you can find one of those you can plug it right in.  Or, if you're handy with an iron you can make the adapter yourself.  It looked really simple in mine.

The expansion slot of a 500 is *almost* a zorro slot. There are a couple signals that are different. There is a hack on Aminet to build a single slot adapter. Back in my A1000 days, I had a Phoenix expansion box. It had 2 Zorro slots . I used a Trumpcard and a CBM 8 meg ram card with it. Worked fine.
