Post by: jonbo on February 13, 2004, 09:58:36 AM
where can i get these roms from, without having to buy off the net?
I am not trying to avoid paying the going rate, but i cannot find any shops around Leeds that sell the Amiga CD with them on, can anyone help?

For what Amiga?

I've got some KS 3.0 (for A1200) ROMs, and I'll be in Leeds this weekend...

Hi mate,
I just need something to get UAE working(to bring back memories of my Amiga), I have a 1.3 rom but thats a bit crap.
KS 3.0 or 3.1 would be great, so is there some way of meeting, unless you know of a shop selling that Amiga Forever CD?
Cheers jon

The two legitimate ways to get Amiga ROM files for WinUAE are either to rip the images yourself from a real Amiga (using transrom I think), or by buying Amiga Forever 5 from Cloanto.

I managed to find a CD32 ROM file and a CD32 Extended-ROM file for WinUAE by doing a Google search, because although I own a CD32 (three in fact), at the time I didn't have the means to rip the ROM's myself (no floppy drive back then). So hopefully it was still legit!  :-)

Steve.

Yeah you got the idea, I just need to get the files not the chips and having long since lobbed my 1200 in the dustbin (what a tit!) I have no way of transfering them etc..
I would be happy to buy the CD of the net, but being an old guy(47) and not trusting this method, I have never bought anything in this way! so I`m stuffed.

Thanks, Jon

I don't know of any Amiga shops in Leeds, but google is your friend :-)  The ROM chips themselves won't be much use to you if you don't have a computer to put them in, to be able to take an image of them.  I've only made images of my KS 3.1 chips.

I think you may have got the wrong idea, what i mean is the Kickstart Disk(s) that you put in when booting up the emulator. I know these can be bought, but I cant find a shop.
I have tried google and loads of other search engines, but no one seems willing to let you have them!

Now I'm confused too!  :-?

You don't need kickstart disks to boot WinUAE, you need ROM files ending in .ROM. These are obtained as mentioned in my previous post. Once you have a WinUAE configuration which uses ROM files, you can boot from whatever disk (an .ADF file) you want like a real Amiga.

You are doing something wrong, it should take you around 1 min to find a site full of rom goodies  :-)

Believe me google is your friend  :-D

@Jonbo

I'm happuy to send you a workbench disk set and a set of 3.0 roms from an A1200, and I will burn images of them all to CDR too, so you will legally own them and be able to use them in UAE.

Check your PM and get back to me.
