Version 1.59 of Amiga911 Maker has now been released, and there is also some new sets of the ready-made Amiga911 boot disks & A911Extras packs available as well.
Just in case you're not quite sure what this is all about, here is a quick overview:
Amiga911 - a standalone boot disk which includes a minimal Workbench and various drivers, tools and other software.
A911Extras - a disk or drawer that contains various drivers, tools and other software. Think of it as a portable "toolbox" for the Amiga.
Emergency Disk II - an improved version of the original Emergency Disk. Allows for alternative methods of installing AmigaOS 3.9.
Amiga911 Maker - a program that allows you to create all the above in a quick and easy way.
Here is a list over some of the changes in Amiga911 Maker 1.59:
* It is now possible to create an enhanced AmigaOS 3.9 Emergency Disk in Amiga911 Maker, this floppy uses the same type of technology as the Amiga911 disk, where lzx compression is used in order to fit more stuff on it. The Emergency Disk II as it is called, also provides alternative methods for installing AmigaOS 3.9. In addition to the standard method of using the original CD with a CD-ROM drive, you can make a AmigaOS 3.9 USB pendrive or a Compact Flash card to be used with a CF-PCMCIA adapter. Another method is using an AmigaOS 3.9 ISO image which can be present on any drive that gets mounted on startup. If you still insist on installing from the original CD, you can also use an external USB CD-ROM drive. The USB methods requires the Poseidon stack, and of course a USB card installed.
* The Amiga911 Maker distribution does now include an installer, this can make it a bit easier to install/update Amiga911 Maker. It also allows for installing a suitable version of the LZX archiver to the system.
* A new tool called ImageMount can now be included in the projects you create. This is a requester driven script which allows you to mount ADF, ISO and HDF image files in a really easy way with only a few mouse clicks, you can then treat the virtual devices like any other storage device (copy, delete, rename files etc.). It works on any Amiga with KS 2.04 or higher, but requires minimum version 38.21 of the Mount command (included in WB2.1). ImageMount uses filedisk.device for mounting virtual devices.
* Virus Checker II can also now be included in your projects. This program can be used for scanning your Amiga for viruses, where it scans both files and the memory. If it finds a virus infected file, it may be able to heal the file in question.
* Redit is another program that can now be added to your projects, this is a small, fast and very compatible text editor.
* It is now possible to add PFS3-AIO (All-In-One) version 2.1 to the boot disks and A911Extras disks/packs you create. But have in mind that the file has been renamed from pfs3_aio-handler to PFS3-AIO.
* All Amiga911 disks will now contain SetPatch 43.6b which replaces the original versions of this command.
* If you create a Low-Mem Amiga911 disk that is meant for Amigas with 1MB+ RAM, the DiskMaster2 & Ordering filemanagers will be stored directly on the disk instead of the Programs.lzx archive. This is in order to reduce the RAM usage when they are run after booting the Amiga911 disk. They will be XPK crunched if this option is selected in Amiga911 Maker.
* The "Copy system files" and "Copy program files" functions of Amiga911 Maker has been improved, and they are both much more snappier now.
* IDEfix and the 68040 & 68060 library files will now be stored directly on the Amiga911 disk instead of the System1.lzx archive, this is because it is safer, but also to make it easier to replace them in case they are of the wrong type.
* The DiskMaster2, FileMaster3 & Ordering config files has been enhanced. Among other things, they now support XPK (de)crunching + UnZip and XadUnFile archive extracting (if these functions are available). Furthermore, it is now possible to use 4 color configs instead of 16 color ones, this can be useful on Low-Mem Amiga911 disks since the file managers will then use less RAM. Another thing is that the issues with the FileMaster 3.2 configs (like the MultiView button problem) has now been fixed.
* General improvements of the various scripts that can be added to the projects, where some "nasty" bugs have been fixed. DiskImageGui now supports CacheCDFS in addition to AmiCDFS, and it is also more precise with the info it gives. mARK does now support XadUnFile whenever it's available, and HJSplitGui now asks if the checksum of the splitted/joined file shall be calculated.
* If you include HDToolBox and/or HDInstTools on the Amiga911 disk, they will include an extra icon stored directly on the disk. This can be useful if you need to change the icon tooltypes (like what harddisk controller to use).
* If FastFileSystem is included on the Amiga911 disk, it will automatically be available when HDToolBox or HDInstTools is run for the very first time (upon extracting). The reason for this is that when HDToolBox or HDInstTools is used for installing a new harddisk, they will look for FFS and add it if it can be found. A harddisk with partitions NEEDS a filesystem to be present on it, or else there will be problems after rebooting.
* The "Import settings from this Amiga" function has been improved. Now it can add everything present in your Sys:Expansion drawer, the main SquirrelSCSI related files and all main CybergraphX 2, 3 or 4 files if they can be found.
* A911Extras can now be either a disk or drawer project. If it's a disk project, some of the standard files will be Imploder crunched versions. If the project is a drawer, the "Create disk" button in Amiga911 Maker will change name to "Export drawer", and upon clicking it, you will asked to select a destination dir where the A911Extras drawer will be copied to.
* The extra Workbench menus included on the Amiga911 disk have been rearranged a bit, and now has two new additions: "Assign To System" will create some additional system assigns that can point to the system dirs on your Workbench partition (or backup of), this may allow you to use some of the software that is present there. The other menu item is "Export files", which can extract, copy and decrunch all files from the Amiga911 disk to your harddisk. This can be useful for copying essential files to a fresh Workbench installation.
* The menus of Amiga911 Maker have also been slightly rearranged, and have some new functions added: "Edit project details" will allow you to change various things like the project name and AmigaOS version to be used, "Clear project" will delete all files that has been copied to your project, and "Delete project" will delete the entire project.
