Title: Noob Question :/ - Rename Boot Partition
Post by: Kernel on March 06, 2014, 04:48:02 AM
I feel like I should know this but...

I want to rename my boot partition, but somewhere the old name is being referenced other than in the startup-sequence and user-startup so that when I boot the screenmode, palette, and other prefs aren't being read properly.

What am I missing?

Look in the palette prefs, WBpattern prefs, etc.  I recall having this problem before where it was looking for my Workbench wallpaper in "Old_Volume_Name:Prefs\Backdrops" instead of "SYS:Prefs\Backdrops".  Or something like that.  You get the idea.  ;)

Ah - genius - that was indeed the problem!

Thanks!

Yeah, I'd recommend always to use SYS: or assigns everywhere. Never the actual device names. Then you can easily change names, locations, systems etc.

I have for example Utils: assign which I use to refer everything in my 3rd party programs dir. If I want to move that dir to different partition or something like that, then it's enough just to change that one assign and everything works again.
