Title: Eide99 issue
Post by: amipower on March 03, 2014, 04:38:30 PM
Hi all,

I am currently towerising my a1200. I run in to some problems an one of them is that I cannot get the buffered ide controller to work propely.

I installed AOS 3.1 with a CF an DVD ROM attached to de controller. No problems with installing the OS.

Next I installed the EIDE'99 and cachecdfs software. All hardware is detected during the install. The version of EIDE is from 2013.

After reboot, all I get is " You must replace volume Amiga OS in SDH0"

Also, when I try to connect any hardware to the 2nd port. The amiga will not boot at all.

Any ideas?

Backtrack your steps. You said you were able to install the OS and everything worked fine until you "installed the EIDE'99 and cachecdfs software"? Check your startup-sequence, anything looking for volume SDH0:?

Nothing looking for sdh0.

I ; c:4xeide.driver from startup sequence. Now it boots again.

Forgot to mention that I still have no cdrom, nor is the 2nd port working.

I don't post here anymore but I know how it feels looking for support for Amiga stuff. I have the same hardware and also had various problems with it.

I recommend removing the software it comes with and install:

http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/IDEfix97

Then put the command below near or at the top of the startup-sequence:

C:IDEFix

Will PM you with other needed info :-)

A longshot, but are you able to test the interface on any other machine?  Are you 100% certain that the second port is working?

Next I installed the EIDE'99 and cachecdfs software.

EIDE'99 has AllegroCDFS http://www.elbox.com/downloads_4xeide.html

Interesting that because all working fine here with my DVD writer on the 2nd channel. Does the idefix prefs show the 2nd drive?

During the install it should give you the devices to select for the DVD/CD drive. Select the scsi.device. Then it should show the DVD/CD drive on the right hand side, select it.

On the next step should select the device (usuaully CD2) which is the mountlist which will mount the DVD/CD drive.

The CD2 device can be found in DEVS : Dosdrivers once it's installed.

It doesn't boot all with a 2nd drive attached. Tried it in another A1200, same issue.

Think it is defective.

Silly question time have to cheeked the jumpers on your drives are set correctly?

With one drive set as master and the other set as slave on each cable/connector as modern sata drives dont need jumpers set this is something worth double checking for an Amiga IDE setup.

Also the Eide doesn't work too well with cable select.
