Title: WinUAE Picasso II emulation + Lightwave
Post by: Ral-Clan on March 02, 2014, 01:44:52 PM
Hi, apparently WinUAE 2.7 introduces emulation of several Amiga graphic card models (like Picasso II, Piccolo, etc.).  The older WinUAE could already do RTG graphics through a generic UAEgraphics RTG driver, but the new version will specifically emulate each model of graphics card.

Just wondering if anyone has tried to run this with Lightwave yet.  Lightwave doesn't support RTG easily (well, I got it to work after much messing about and screen promotion), but it DOES have built in Picasso II support.  So I was wondering how well it runs with the new Picasso II card emulation.

I haven't tried this yet because I use WinUAE through Amiga Forever and they haven't updated to the WinUAE 2.7 "engine" yet.

I doubt that there is any hardware support in LW. It's more likely that it supports Picasso96 and thus all graphics cards for which a P96 driver exists, including UAEGFX.

That might be, but I have Picasso 96 installed and LW does not support RTG through that software when NOT using a Picasso II card.  I think it's programmed to directly hit the Picasso II hardware.  In fact, the display option in Lightwave specifically says "Picasso II", not RTG or any other card name.

If it's just about the render screen: http://aminet.net/package/gfx/3d/LWCyberGFX12

I'm sorry but why?  If you are running it on a PC then just run a modern version of LW?   It's improved so much in over 2 decades that it isn't even funny.

Why do people run marathons or climb mountains? ;)

Besides, I don't think this looks too bad for my first modelling project (done in Lightwave 5 in WinUAE).

All models, textures etc. etc. were built from scratch by me and rendered 100% in Lightwave 5.0 running on AmigaOS3.9. Textures were made in ImageFX. As I mentioned before, this is my first serious 3D modelling project.
