Title: Re: How do you run mental?

and ofcourse, u need to rename the lib so its appropriate named! for your system..

ie if u have mediator with voodoo then it should be trueaga.library_cgx -> trueaga.library  .

this is because of some errors in p96, so you cant use native p96 one...

this elbox bug has been fixed some time ago but we didnt know this so we just made special cgx exe for that..

cheers

Why wouldn't you rename it to trueaga.library as suggested? In any case the program tries to open library called trueaga.library. Other names are just different options and you should rename the needed version to trueaga.library. And as said, you should use the cgx version with Mediator/Voodoo. Let me spell it right: rename FROM trueaga.library_cgx TO trueaga.library

When I run mental, I usually get good and drunk, wear funny cloths and scream that my pants are on fire. Could that be why i have the love me jacket still on?  :insane:

mental by push entertainment (my team) WORKS fine on VOODOO CARDS.

just do as i told u allready.

mental_rtg.exe 16
mental_rtg.exe 24
mental_rtg.exe 32

thats the 3 ways..

for the trueaga library , just copy the cgx lib to progdir
8mental DIR)  + to libs:   (remember to rename it)

ok just to have said it..

its well documented if uy read the damn readme :-)

anyway open a shell window and type mental_rtg.exe 16  and hit enter , then the demo runs..
if it doesnt then you have either:

1. no trueaga lib (Correct one) (remeber to reboot or avail flush your memory)

2. not available screenmode  (you need to make a 320x256x16,24,32 mode in p96mode)

anyway all of this is pretty basic {bleep} and none have ever complained before, most likely you havent renamed the correct lib and put it in progdir + libs: (mediator users should use the CGX library) , if youre 100% certain of that then check if u remebered to make the modes! with p96mode in sys:prefs .

@lempkee:

I have an A4000 with a CyberVision64 graphics card. When using CyberGraphX 4 the all push demos using trueaga.library behaves a bit wierd. Wierd in the sense that it splits the output and creates a screen which can be described as this:

listing from the upper part to the lower part of the screen:
-a bit of black
-a flickering graphical output of the demo, half as high as it should be
-a bit of black
-a flickering graphical output of the demo, half as high as it should be
-a bit of black

So effectively I get two outputs from the demo on the same screen, but some interesting aspects are that they dont look totaly identical pixel by pixel and one of them looks like it is a frame or so after the other one in time.

I have tried all different depths and all different versions of trueaga.library (p96, cgx, cgx&p96) and they all behave identical. Though if I use Picasso96 as rtg software instead of CyberGraphX the demos output their graphics correctly.

Just to put this into perspective, I downloaded Mental, organised all the files as described in the text, selected one or other screenmode version, and they all work fine. I have a PicassoIV, but I think I actually prefer the 68K version over RTG. Looks crisper and on my '060/64MHz seems to sync better with the soundtrack. But brilliant in any mode!

Mental...this is what Amiga demos are all about. Lovely!
I wish I could do this stuff too! The ocean anim is superb.
I have tried to create this stuff in LightWave and can get nowhere near this result. How's it done, dammit!

Cheers,

JaX

patrik: sounds like you have a issue with interlace/doublescan or simmilar ...

maybe u forgot to use correct lib?

i dont know really as i only use p96 and all our testers on cgx never reported any problems like u mention...

Title: Re: How do you run mental?
Post by: lempkee on March 11, 2004, 03:08:22 PM
jaxanim: erm who said the ocean thing was an anim?

check dolphins dream also , the 64kb intro and maybe you will call that an anim too :-)

also 68k is better than rtg?  u meant aga i guess , anyway we support rtg but that doesnt mean its the best choice!, its so that people with ECS can see our products!.

i for one always prefer AGA over rtg when it comes to demos.

also both rtg and aga performs identical on my setup (mediator and 060)  .

anyway since u mentioned lightwave, yes we use lightwave for the 3d, so all seen in mental is possible to rfecreate if you would want that, and yes LW5.0/1 .

cheers

@lempkee

I was speaking figuratively. I like the 'ocean animation'. Couldn't guess the format, but great LightWave stuff!
