Title: NEW: Talk Retro - The Computer Forum for Everyone
Post by: iRetroVolver on January 23, 2014, 09:49:01 AM
For those who have followed recent events around a large retro  collection which was acquired, know that this was done with the intention to sell it back to the community piece by piece. It entailed over 30.000 items varying from Commodore 64, Max Machines, CBM PET's, MSX all the way to every Atari and Amiga you can think of.. even a prototype CD32 and UltraMax was in the collection.. so plenty to put back into the wild!!

Local sales
Local sales already started (less than 5% so far has been sold) but  only to get the ball rolling and to get some of the money recouped as  this is a privately funded operation. It also enabled us to free up some  space for the continuation.

In the mean time we started testing the equipment and making nice sets  in order to get the best buying experience out to those interested.

Let’s Talk Retro
We decided we needed a platform and instead of selling it on AmiBay.com we decided to accept an offer to sell it on a new platform with some more liberties in trading.

The result is the  forum TalkRetro (http://www.talkretro.com) which is in essence a mixture of several flavors.

The difference or call them the house rules are nicely explained here (http://www.talkretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=28), but it is in essence an open system where only one rule exists and that is to respect each other.

The person who sells something will set the rules of engagement i.e. ask for a fair price, a fixed price or a trade-in. It is not  an auction site like eBay but it does give some more liberty in the  type of sale you seek. Price discussions are allowed in new threads  unless the seller explicitly states this to be unacceptable.

Feedback or Reputation is not based on sales only but can also be  achieved by technical support or showing off some cool restoration  projects.

So long story short: We will start selling on Talk Retro in a few weeks and step it up slowly.

We hope that Talk Retro will offer a nice addition to the respected fora out there.

Registration is simple and we hope to see you there as well and use it for your own sales or scavenger hunts (http://www.amibay.com/images/smilies/great.gif)

Neat.
I have never had much luck with Amibay.
And I wouldn't mind a place to look for MSX components and other retro hardware.
